Traveling Network Technician
United Communication Services is currently seeking traveling network technicians to work on nationwide large commercial construction and remodel projects. We are looking for a reliable technician with diverse knowledge of the telecommunications cabling industry.
Ideal candidates should possess great communication skills and to frequently correspond with field technicians & office personnel, as well as customers via email, phone, text, facetime, google duo, Webex, zoom, etc.
You will be working with Layer 1 (Physical), typically cable and device installation. Entire network installations, remodels, troubleshoots, service calls, and surveys. You will also be doing some light construction consisting of but not limited to; Light painting of conduit/back boards infrequently, installation conduit and fittings, conduit bending, cutting in of boxes into drywall
Essential duties and responsibilities consist of but are not limited to:
- Extensive travel is required. Flights, Hotels, Rental Cars are arranged for your and Per Diem is provided.
- Must have basic network tools (Lineman’s Pliers (Kleins), Punch Tool w/110 + 66 Blade, Crimper w/RJ45 + RJ11/12 Ports, 12in1 Electrician’s Screw Driver, Basic Pair Tester (RJ45 Network Cable), Cable Toner (Signal Generator + Wand), Fish Tape, Glow Sticks (Pull Rods), Impact + Regular Cordless Drill, Flashlight/Headlamp, Tape Measure, etc.
- Must be physically able to complete any portion of the installation.
- Must be comfortable with heights, working from 12’ and smaller ladders, scissor and articulating boom lifts, and on commercial roofs.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards (BICSI, NEC, TIA/EIA) and best practices.
- Must be comfortable communicating, getting to site on time, logging in and out with vendors, sending deliverable documents and photos to vendors, working with vendor clients and their customers in a commercial setting and in a professional manner, sourcing materials, engineering solutions on the fly, and completing a scope of work.
- Must be able to read and comprehend Blueprints and Scope of Work documents.
- Experience in Operating and Certification of Scissor Lifts and Articulating Boom Lifts.
- Must be able to identify MDF, IDF, Demarc, Phone NID, MPoE, UPS, Battery Boxes, Switches, Routers, Modems, Firewalls, Servers, Hubs, 66 Blocks, 110 Blocks, Fiber LUIs, Patch Panels,
- Cat3, Cat5, and Cat6 cable troubleshooting and termination experience.
- Fiber troubleshooting and termination experience.
- Must be able to neatly run, dress, and manage cabling.
- Must be able to use correct cable pathway practices.
- Audio/Visual Systems Experience. Installing/Mounting TVs, Media Players, Speakers, and associated Low Voltage Cabling.
- Basic computer skills are required infrequently.
- Knowledge/Experience with Paging and Audio Systems, Access Control Systems, CCTV (Analog + IP), Alarm Systems, Phone Systems (Analog + VOIP), and Basic Electrical, are all helpful and/or needed for some jobs.
- OSHA 10 Certification
- Possessing your own Worker's Compensation is preferred
Experience:
- Minimum 3 – 5 years’ work experience in Structured Cabling/Network Cabling in a commercial environment.
- Read, write, and understand English.
- Able to distinguish colors.
Work Remotely
- No. All work is performed on site at customer locations in various cities/states across the continental United States.
