Job Summary:
Under general supervision, provides job development activities and job placement activities for selected individuals with various disabilities. The goal of the Vocational Education Counselor is to provide participants with ongoing support to secure and maintain competitive employment at an independent level.
Essential Functions:
- Provides vocational rehabilitation counseling and services to individuals with disabilities and barriers to employment.
- Facilitates employment education training classes and helps to develop employment curriculum and programs.
- Develop and execute training programs tailored to individual needs, incorporating teaching and public speaking skills.
- Track students’ progress through a variety of means, including pre- and post- tests, observation progress reports, mid-term measurements, and final measurements for each student
- Conducts individual assessment and develop job placement plan based on individual input.
- Develops community referral sources for services.
- Monitors cases to ensure that the Individual Placement Plan (IPP) is being followed and that services are in compliance with the program contract.
- Perform job analysis, matching potential openings with individuals’ needs and skills, as well as logistics of getting to the job site, negotiating accommodations as needed.
- Assist individuals with employment applications; resume creation, interviewing skills and job preparation.
- Perform intervention as needed with assigned individuals placed who may be at risk of losing their jobs. Work closely with employer and individuals to resolve issues as soon as possible.
- Provide job coaching as determined by individual’s need and employer’s wishes.
- Assists in the execution and management of incubator and fee-for-service projects.
- Research possible job openings and opportunities for individuals by contacting employment services, newspaper want ads, previous contacts, and any other means of reaching potential employers.
- Maintains records and reports.
- Develops and maintains relationships with Vocational Rehabilitation Division by keeping them informed on progress via phone or email contact and with accurate and timely written reports.
- Delivers presentations to employers and community networks to increase awareness of organization’s mission and services.
- Attend informational and clinical training meetings as assigned, which may include outside agency opportunities in relation to Human Services industry field work, team/group meetings, intra-agency trainings, etc.
- Develops cooperative partnerships with businesses to meet the shared goal of placing suitable workers in community-based workplaces.
Education Requirements:
Associates of Arts and Science degree, plus experience working in the field of vocational rehabilitation or education working directly with individuals with a disability.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills. Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions/directives.
- Reliable and insured vehicle to be used to transport clients for job development, interviews, job retention, etc. Must have a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, motor vehicle registration, safety check, and submission of a driver abstract.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Issue oral and written instructions/directives and ensure that they are carried out properly.
- Obtain and evaluate facts; keep records; write clear and concise reports.
- Deal effectively with public, parents/guardians, participants, government agencies and other agents.
- Demonstrate qualities of leadership.
Physical Requirements/ Work Environment:
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to walk long distances with occasional breaks.
- Must be able to remain alert and keep a visual on participants at all times.
- Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
- Must participate in community outreach and engage in multiple worksites in the community.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $37,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
