SUMMARY
PW MAINTENANCE WORKER/TECHNICIAN
Under direct supervision of the Public Works Crew Leader, the PW Maintenance Worker/Technician repairs, maintains, and monitors all of the Town of Sunnyvale’s utilities infrastructure. Also, performs routine tasks to maintain and repair Town streets. Provides customer service and ensures functionality and operational efficiency of all meters and public works utilities.
PW MAINTENANCE WORKER

Performs all the repair and maintenance for the Town’s public works infrastructure; cleans, restores, and maintains utilities in compliance with all regulations and town policies.

Operates and uses various heavy machinery and vehicles required to complete repair or maintenance jobs for utilities; adheres to safety protocols and potential hazards.

Works safely when working in close proximity to high-speed vehicle traffic areas, along medians, and right-of-ways.

Performs general repair and maintenance work for all public works infrastructure and road maintenance; directs traffic, keeps the public safe, and ensures that all repair work is done following a utilities maintenance event.

Maintains Town equipment and vehicles used in maintenance and repair projects; identifies issues, addresses repair needs, and keeps all equipment and vehicles in operational use.

Participates in training and education for the proper repair and maintenance procedures and policies for the utilities of the Town; maintains strong communication with Lead Technician and works to improve quality of work and maintenance skill.

Provides customer service to the Town of Sunnyvale residents for all water, wastewater, storm water, and road maintenance inquiries and concerns.

Checks and evaluates inventory for parts and equipment needed; accurately tracks supplies, materials, and equipment used for repairs.

Attends and participates in various meetings to discuss procedures and workflow; remains up to date on the latest repair and maintenance skills.

Reads, reports, and maintains water meters; ensures functionality and accuracy of reading; responds to customer inquiries or concerns regarding meters.

Performs related duties as required or assigned.
PW MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Performs all the repair and maintenance for the Town’s public works infrastructure; cleans, restores, and maintains utilities in compliance with all regulations and town policies.

Operates and uses various heavy machinery and vehicles required to complete repair or maintenance jobs for utilities; adheres to safety protocols and potential hazards.

Maintain and repair all water and wastewater system components (manholes, pipe, lift station, SCADA, elevated and ground storage tanks, pumps, fire hydrants, valves, meters, meter boxes, pipe, etc.).

Works safely when working in close proximity to high-speed vehicle traffic areas, along medians, and right-of-ways.

Conduct inspections and data documentation on water and wastewater stations daily, including weekends on a rotating schedule.

Performs general repair and maintenance work for all public works infrastructure and road maintenance; directs traffic, keeps the public safe, and ensures that all repair work is done following a utilities maintenance event.

Maintains Town equipment and vehicles used in maintenance and repair projects; identifies issues, addresses repair needs, and keeps all equipment and vehicles in operational use.

PW MAINTENANCE WORKER - MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines High School Diploma/GED Prefer one (1) year of maintenance experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge of: • Maintenance and repair supplies and equipment. • Safe operation of various vehicles and equipment. • Utilities infrastructure, road maintenance, and wastewater management • Customer service practices and methods. • Basic computer skills and ability to operate meter-reading software. Skill in: • Maintaining and repairing all public works utilities infrastructure and equipment • Providing customer service and interacting with patrons. • Operating multiple forms of maintenance equipment and performing repairs. • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing. PW MAINTENANCE/TECHNICIAN - MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines • High School Diploma/GED • Two (2) years or more experience of related construction, maintenance and repair of roadway and stormwater experience required. • Class “C” Water Distribution License required or be able to obtain within twenty-four (24) months of date of hire. • Class I Wastewater Collection License required or be able to obtain within twenty-four (24) months of date of hire. Knowledge of: • Maintenance and repair supplies and equipment. • Safe operation of various vehicles and equipment. • Utilities infrastructure, road maintenance, and wastewater management • Customer service practices and methods. • Basic computer skills and ability to operate meter-reading software. Skill in: • Maintaining and repairing all public works utilities infrastructure and equipment • Providing customer service and interacting with patrons. • Operating multiple forms of maintenance equipment and performing repairs. • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing. LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS A valid Class C Driver’s License is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Required to perform work both indoors and outdoors with exposure to weather conditions prevalent at the time. Regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; vibration, and loud background noise. Occasional non-regular work hours, which may include nights and weekends. Ability to be on call and respond to public works emergencies in a timely manner. Be willing to come in on scheduled time off for emergencies and Town sponsored events. Ability to lift, push ore pull 80 lbs.
