We are a Wholesale Building Materials Distributor seeking a responsible, reliable and punctual fulltime Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant will participate in preparing monthly accounts, financial statements and variance analysis. They will also play a major role in coordinating annual budgets and monthly forecasting with department heads, as well as other special projects. The Senior Accountant reports to the Controller.
Senior Accountant Responsibilities & Duties:
- Partner with Controller to complete a timely and accurate monthly close, including the preparation of monthly journal entries in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), account reconciliations, and P&L analyses.
- Maintain the General Ledger and ensure proper posting of all transactions.
- Maintain account reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts.
- Maintain fixed asset registers and calculate depreciation expense in accordance with the company’s capitalization policies.
- Maintain and update entity, sales and use tax filings.
- Assist with the year-end audit, including preparation of audited financial statements and related documentation.
- Responsible for creation and maintaining of annual budgeting and monthly reforecasting processes.
- Responsible for creation and updating of dashboard reports.
- Manage workload and oversee daily activities of AR Associate & AP Coordinator.
- Provide detailed analyses and explanations on all transactions.
- Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and GAAP.
- Answer general phone calls and direct them accordingly.
- Assist with other projects as needed and general administrative duties as required.
The Senior Accountant must work closely with all departments & management.
Senior Accountant Qualifications & Requirements:
- Proficient in Excel and experience with Great Plains or another G/L system.
- Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
- Detailed oriented and can multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Be proactive and self-motivator with the ability to learn quickly.
- Possess a desire to learn and be challenged.
- Solid communication skills with the ability to work with all members of the organization and all levels of management.
- Ability to work independently.
Education and Experience:
- 3-5 years of accounting experience in a similar role
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
- Prior history with Building Material Supply industry is a plus.
- Bi-Lingual (Mandarin) a plus
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification preferred.
- Strong knowledge of financial concepts, principles, and practices
- Proficiency in account reconciliation, debits, credits, and financial analysis
- Experience with Great Plains software is highly desirable.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
