Function / Position Summary
Foster a functional and well-organized library/learning commons, in compliance with school and district procedures and policies. Supervise and assist students and staff utilizing library resources. Provide a positive and nurturing school learning environment that enables students and staff the benefit of multiple resources, materials, and equipment. Uphold School District U-46 ICARE Standards. Maintain confidentiality of student, staff and department information within the school and community.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Contributes to the research and acquisition of library materials (print, equipment, and supplies) that support curriculum, including coordination, selection and purchase.
- Processes new materials as needed for ease of accessibility and circulation, including labeling, stamping, book covers, etc.
- Assists in the preservation and restoration of library resources. Shelves, repairs and removes worn and unusable materials as determined by supervisor.
- Circulates materials to students and staff, using district supported Library Information System.
- Organizes records, collects and compiles data to create meaningful reports as needed or assigned, to guide future decision making.
- Provides non-instructional assistance to patrons with scheduled library activities.
- Collaborates with building staff, using effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Attend staff meetings and staff development activities as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education
- Para Educator, Substitute, Professional Educator or Provisional Educator License required.
- Minimum education requirement for a Para Educator License is completion of at least 60 semester hours of college course work or a passing score on the ETS Para Pro exam or two specific Work Keys exams.
- Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred. Certain assignments require Bilingual – Spanish/English.
Experience / Knowledge
- Effective communication skills.
- Experience working with students in an educational setting preferred.
- Knowledge of all available library resources preferred.
- Working knowledge of district computer systems preferred.
Physical Demands
- Excellent physical agility and quick response time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- This is a 10-month position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education and set forth in the collective bargaining agreement as applicable
Additional Information
- 4 hours per day.
- This position includes benefits.
- Minimum $17.21 per hour per union agreement.
