Open Position: RIOT Youth Coordinator
Welcome to La Colaborativa, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Latinx immigrants, enhancing community well-being, and advocating for accountability among institutional decision-makers.
La Colaborativa is looking for a program coordinator passionate about youth development, mobility, and wellbeing. The RIOT Youth Program Coordinator will supervise youth employees and coordinate key aspects of the program, with the goal of fostering social, educational, and economic growth amongst youth in Chelsea. Rooted in the tenet of dignity and inclusion, the RIOT program is a youth employment program designed to empower young Chelsea residents ages 14-21 as agents for change in their community and beyond. This program consists of comprehensive training on issues of social justice, community organizing and creative, youth-led change. Youth in this program are expected to design and implement projects that serve their community, create awareness around issues of injustice and promote young people's voices in local decision-making.
Responsibilities
Exercise supervision and empower youth employed through the RIOT Square Program, an.after-school jobs program meets weekdays, from from 4-6PM and includes approximately 15 youth participants;
Plan and implement youth justice campaigns centered around critical social justice issues impacting youth in Chelsea;
Oversee, mentor, and support youth employees in the creation and execution of community planning, community organizing, and social justice campaigns;
Inspire and motivate youth to encourage critical thinking, team bonding and professional growth.
Supervise youth employees and, as directed, program staff, managing attendance, performance, hiring, training, and discipline. Conduct regular assessments and convey constructive feedback to maintain accountability;
Facilitate workforce development, career readiness, leadership development, and career exploration training. Encourage the adoption of soft skills, career awareness, and economic literacy essential to securing employment and excelling in the workplace;
Support the cultivation of hard and soft skills amongst youth leaders, focused on building confidence, developing robust communication skills, and increasing employability;
Craft and implement parent engagement plans to establish, grow, and enhance communication with parents, in order to further positive youth outcomes;
Develop and carry out arts and culture based projects and activities as tools for social change and youth messaging to the community.
Attend coalition meetings, draft press releases and participate in strategic organizing for youth-rights centered policy and legislation. Potential focal areas include education equity, access to vocational education, youth violence prevention, and housing justice for Chelsea youth;
Attend and help organize local and regional protest actions for youth and community rights.
Foster a sense of community, youth leadership and social/emotional wellbeing in the youth. Maintain a safe and engaging space for youth to connect with one another and grow as leaders.
Regularly prepare and transmit reports to keep leadership apprised of program progress, trends, and challenges. Perform administrative duties, record keeping, and other duties, as assigned.
Prioritize cultural safety and sensitivity, specifically with Latinx and immigrant communities, in all facets of work.
Qualifications and Skills
Must be highly proficient or near-fluent in Spanish
Ability to design youth organizing and civic engagement curriculum, develop projects, and facilitate meaningful activities for youth.
Experience in a supervisory capacity;
A passion for youth development and experience working with youth from predominantly
immigrant communities of color, low income youth and other marginalized groups.
Exhibits a strong alignment with La Colaborativa’s mission and values, reflecting a dedication to advancing equity, social justice, and the empowerment of the Latinx and immigrant community.
Demonstrable ability to inspire, motivate, and lead youth of varying backgrounds.
Highly skilled at written and oral communication, as well as tactfully interacting with people through a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive approach.
Excellent organizational, task management, and time management skills, with an ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team.
Ability to design creative, effective youth-centered curriculum and project-based learning activities.
Background in excelling in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Experienced at creating and implementing systems to remain organized and complete tasks on-time.
Empathetic and compassionate, with a strong sense of community.
Position: RIOT Youth Program Coordinator
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM, with occasional evenings and weekends
Location: 318 Broadway, Chelsea, MA, 02150
Salary: $55,000-$60,000, depending upon experience, plus a $3,000 sign-on bonus following three (3) month probationary period, with opportunity for an additional bonus after satisfactory completion of six month review
