Website & Institutional Communications Editor

Full-time: 40 hours per week
The Goethe-Institut Washington is seeking a dedicated colleague to join us as a Website and Institutional Communications Editor starting September 1st, 2024, or as soon as possible. Compensation will align with the established local pay scale ($57,412 - $59,134). This position requires a valid work permit. The Goethe-Institut will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
Responsibilities:
- Editing and conceptual development of online offerings of the Goethe-Institut in the USA (www.goethe.de/usa) as well as other national, regional, or international online offerings such as the regional online magazine "Gegenüber" (www.goethe.de/gegenueber) in English and German.
- Creating and organizing editorial multimedia content on topics and events related to the Goethe-Institut: conceptualization, coordination with other editors, realization, evaluation, and further development of formats for social media / maintaining an editorial calendar / quality management / adhering to the Goethe-Institut's corporate design
- Contributing to the conception and implementation of various formats and regional projects on topics in the information sector.
- Writing original texts, headlines, and teasers; editing contributions from others (primarily in English); managing translations, including translating into English; CMS entry.
- Assisting in the organization, realization, moderation, and community management of analog, hybrid, or digital live events.
- Responsible for newsletters and special mailings (strategic planning, editing, creation, and distribution, evaluation, and further development) / coordinating and implementing marketing campaigns for promotion.
- Monitoring of traffic (including user demographics, dwell time, etc.) and creation of corresponding statistics, as well as implementation of data protection regulations in the online space.
- Coordination of the revision of information architecture of online offerings and structure and design of websites based on the Goethe-Institut's CMS according to usability criteria for target audiences, as well as SEO/SEA.
- Budget monitoring including invoice processing and reporting.
- Establishing contacts with/negotiating with partner organizations and cultural institutions in the USA and Germany, developing collaborations and online marketing.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Media Studies with specialization in Social Media and Digital Publicity, or several years of relevant professional experience in media work, social media, and editorial.
- Strong affinity for digital communication channels, willingness to track trends and implement innovations in the digital realm, basic knowledge of planning and implementing communication concepts.
- Good knowledge of the US media landscape (including relevant portals, blogs, and influencers).
- High degree of independence in identifying, setting, and pursuing themes and thematic lines.
- Expertise in conceptualization, editing, analysis, and management.
- Interest and good knowledge of both US American and German cultural landscapes.
- Good writing style, journalistic intuition.
- Proficiency in common office applications and digital image and media editing (Hootsuite, Canva, Photoshop, etc.).
- Fluent proficiency in English, very good German skills (at least C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference).
- Excellent communication skills, self-reliant and proactive work style.
- Strong willingness to cooperate and ability to work on a team.
- Reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail.
- Willingness and ability to quickly familiarize oneself with complex issues.
The Goethe-Institut offers a competitive benefits package, including health insurance and short-term disability insurance (for employees working at least 30 hours per week). After 6 months of employment, all employees are eligible to contribute to a 401(K) plan with up to a 4.5% employer match. This position offers a hybrid work model allowing remote work for up to two days per week, pending supervisor approval.
Salary Range: 57,412 USD – 59,134 USD
