Medical Coder: Translating Health Records into Codes
This is a detailed job description for a medical coder who assigns accurate diagnostic and procedure codes to patient records in various settings (ED, ASC, HAS, OBS, IP, etc.).
Responsibilities:
- Review medical records and translate clinical information into medical codes (ICD-10, HCPCS/CPT).
- Analyze and maintain accuracy of coding systems.
- Use electronic health records (Epic) to access patient data.
- Identify principal diagnoses and procedures for proper reimbursement.
- Research coding issues and stay updated on regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and work effectively with staff.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in medical coding
- Associates Degree
- RHIT, RHIA or CCS Certified
- Experience with EMR systems and medical terminology.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Pay: $24.00 - $33.00 per hour
