The Safety Coordinator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the health, safety, and environmental well-being of employees within the site operations. This position involves coordinating and implementing safety programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA and DOT requirements. The Safety Coordinator collaborates closely with the safety manager to address compliance concerns and facilitate preventative actions. Additionally, the role involves maintaining records, conducting safety training, performing safety evaluations, and overseeing accident/injury reporting processes.
Job Description:
- Coordinate and implement company safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Assist in the development and enforcement of safety policies in accordance with corporate standards.
- Perform comprehensive safety evaluations across multiple areas of the operation and on various shifts.
- Lead safety meetings in response to identified safety deficiencies on-site.
- Conduct PPE inspections as required and maintain a detailed log with inspection dates.
- Manage accident/injury reporting processes, including identifying root cause and contributing factors, to facilitate continuous improvement in safety practices.
- Promote safety initiatives through the creation of concise, impactful, and engaging PowerPoint/Digital presentations. Utilize these materials to effectively communicate safety protocols, best practices, and training information to employees.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in occupational or industrial Safety, or a related field.
- Certification or Working knowledge in Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations is highly desirable.
- Prior experience in safety coordination, preferably within the trucking or logistics industry, is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively conduct safety training and communicate safety procedures.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Proactive and solution-oriented mindset with the ability to identify safety issues and implement effective solutions.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
- Proficient in using relevant software applications, such as fleet management systems and compliance tracking tools.
- Ability to analyze compliance metrics and develop actionable insights for improvement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle small maintenance issues with trucks and trailers.
