Packing and Shipping Clerk
Packing and Shipping Clerk is responsible for ensuring that all items make it safely to their destinations. The packing and shipping clerk is responsible for being the last quality control check prior to the item leaving the warehouse. The packing and shipping clerk must be able to read and understand work orders for each package and check item to ensure all required components are included and are functional, as special or custom requests are common. Each item must be securely packaged and properly labeled. The packing and shipping coordinator is responsible for ensuring that items ordered arrive to the customer by the date requested on the work order. For the reasons above, the packing and shipping coordinator will be seen as an important liaison between our business and our clients, making sure that everyone gets what they need correctly, quickly and efficiently.
Essential job duties or functions:
- Performs preparations for packing of parts and products by physically moving the parts to the packing area, inspecting the parts to be packed according to quality specifications on sales order, pictures, verbal instructions and other forms of instructions, to assure that the packing job will be completed to meet customer and delivery standards.
- Packs the parts or products by performing a combination of methods including packing on pallets, securing product by installing strapping, bracing, or padding using shrink wrap to prevent shifting or damage in transit aided with the use of hand tools.
- Pack, weigh, and label completed items for shipment or storage. Assist with loading of freight trucks.
- Follow all company guidelines regarding packaging and shipping.
- Identify that all required components listed on the work order are included with the product and that the quality of the product meets company standards.
- Properly use packaging materials, including hand tools, glues, nails, padding, strapping machine, etc.
- Coordinate deliveries to customers and clients on a daily basis utilizing shipping software to properly schedule and print customer labels.
- Effectively use company ERP system to properly update order status.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- Keep records of goods that have been shipped, ie printed work orders and return to management once the packages have been shipped.
- Perform customer service duties as necessary, maintaining good relationships with shipping companies and clients who walk up to the facility.
- Operate equipment and machines accordingly to specific operational and safety instructions.
- Verbally communicates to Shop Manager or Owner any machinery and equipment functional problems and notifies them of any quality issues detected.
- The Packing and Shipping Clerk may be required to perform additional duties not specifically describe herein.
- Work cooperatively with other employees and supervisors.
- Regular and consistent attendance.
- Ability to move 40-50 lbs. unaccompanied.
- Prolonged periods of standing.
- Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
Experience or Job Qualifications:
- High school or equivalent.
- Ability to work in fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Be a team player and work cooperatively with other people and subordinate personal interests to achieve a common goal.
- Have a solid work history.
- Effectively use shipping software and company internal ERP System
