Roles & Responsibilities Support individual student planning and goal-settingProvide short-term counseling to studentsRefer students for long-term support as neededCollaborate with families/teachers/ administrators/ community for student successAdvocate for students at individual student support planning meetings and other student-focused meetingsUtilize data analysis to identify student issues, needs, and challengesDeliver school counseling classroom lessons based on student success standardsAct as a systems change agent to improve equity and access, achievement, and opportunities for all studentsMeet expectations as defined by the Park School Employee Essential Expectations Qualifications Master's degree in school counseling2+ years of experience as a school counselorFamiliarity and/or expertise with the American School Counselors Association program standards are preferredWorking knowledge of school counseling models, methods, and resourcesAbility to identify and respond to students' needsExcellent listening and problem-solving skillsMust be patient and compassionateKnowledge of various methods to prevent or treat mental-health problems and other difficultiesStrong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and other adultsStrong communication skills, including experience in writing student comments and other school-related documentsDemonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in teaching and learning & experience in working in a culturally diverse community Motivation for and interest in professional developmentAbility to think independently and along with collaborate in a team environmentHigh integrity, professionalism, and confidentialityMaintain focus and adaptability in an energetic and, at times, loud environmentThe ability to effectively interpret, navigate, mediate, and resolve conflict with students and families in a timely mannerThe ability to hold meetings in person and via supported video conference tools (i.e. Zoom or Google Meet)Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications as adopted by the school, such as Veracross, SchoolPass, Atlas etc. Physical Requirements The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30 minute periods of time.The ability to traverse on and across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).The ability to lead, supervise and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas), including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency.
The ability to position oneself (e.g., stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down) in order to support students. The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions.The ability to lift and hold 15 lbs overhead.
