YOUR MISSION
Reporting to the Production Manager and working under the supervision of the Head of Lighting, the Lighting Technician will be a highly motivated individual who is inspired and keen to contribute to and improve the show quality & technical operations of the show.
Responsibilities
Ensure that lighting equipment is set up properly and consistent with the show concept;
- Set up and dismantle lighting equipment;
- Inspect and maintain the lighting rig;
- Assist in the lighting pre-set;
- Operate follow spot during performances and rehearsals, and as needed, operate the lighting console;
- Replace other technicians at different positions during show as required;
- Assist with maintenance, repair and modification of lighting equipment;
- Oversee training of local follow spot operators;
- Call spot cues;
- Attend weekly maintenance and focus calls;
- Update lighting department archives;
- Ensure the safety and security of lighting installations at all times;
- Assist with Load-In and Load-Out of all show equipment;
- Assist with the maintenance of all technical equipment;
- Adhere to standards and regulations pertaining to the safety of lighting equipment, and comply with safe working methods;
- Follow and support the equipment and inventory management procedures and requirements as required by Cirque du Soleil;
- Utilize the tools and procedures provided by International Headquarters IHQ to maintain inventory and equipment data;
- Follow the requirements detailed by the IHQ for the transport of material with touring productions;
- Carry out all other tasks requested by the Production Manager and the Head of Lighting.
YOUR UNIQUE EXPERTISE
College diploma (or equivalent) in live entertainment or theatre production (or equivalent work experience);
- A minimum of three years' experience as a lighting technician;
- Basic understanding of electricity and electrical safety in the entertainment sector;
- Experience with maintenance and repair of both conventional & automated lighting fixtures;
- Good general understanding of all technical aspects of a show an asset;
- Personnel management experience an asset;
- Flexibility, autonomy, team player;
- Good communication skills;
- Ability to handle contingencies and work well under pressure;
- Ability to work high above the ground (climbing abilities essential);
- Knowledge of Microsoft software for Windows;
- Fluency in spoken and written English is essential; any additional language spoken and/or written is an asset;
- Available to tour full time and to work in foreign countries.
