Maui High School is located in Kahului, Maui and serves the central and southeastern districts of the island. The central district is an established, working class, suburban community of residences, small businesses, and light industry. The southeastern district is a newly built and generally transient community surrounded by large resorts and hotels. We have an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse student population.
Maui High School opened in 1913 in the community of Hamakuapoko, on the north shore. It was the first academic high school on the island and had an initial enrollment of sixteen students. In 1972, the present Maui High School campus opened in the heart of central Maui. We now serve approximately 2000 students.
We offer extensive and varied programs for students in grades 9-12. Our school is driven by 10 Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways where students select and complete a course of study within the school curriculum.
These include: Education, Health Services, Building & Construction, Information Technology & Digital Transformation, Arts & Communication, Business Management Finance & Marketing, Architectural Design & Engineering Technology, Agriculture Food & Natural Resources, Hospitality Tourism & Recreation and finally, Transportation Services.
In addition, we are an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determinism) Certified School and many of our teachers are AVID trained. Lastly, we offer open enrollment for our numerous Advanced Placement courses and are growing our Dual Enrollment course selection, which affords students the chance to earn both high school and college credit simultaneously.
