Short Description
The Product Designer has a contagious imagination, a solid sense of design and color/texture sensibility and is proficient in translating concepts to drawings and drawings to 2D and 3D CAD across a variety of software suites. You will design from initial product concept ideation, including packaging, up to and through release to factory stages in a fast-paced rapid prototyping process.
Professional competencies include highly skilled in visualization, having a keen eye for form and aesthetics, exceptional talent in ideation, and strong foundation in sketching.

Specific Responsibilities
· Push the visual style of Rhode Island Novelty forward and help maintain its consistency by contributing to our design system.
· Help others to understand your creative process and clearly and effectively communicate the logic behind your ideas
· Brainstorm ideas and create concepts
· Consult with sales and product management team for design direction
· Create drawings for concepts by sketching or using software
· Develop Initial hand sketches for ideas
· Complete color/art line review – Creative approval
· Complete final line reviews – Design approval
· Build conceptual/structural approved drawings to templates
· Create templates for creative team to use for building art/color files
· Hand over prototype, and templates for art/color mock up
· Adjust templates/drawing files after color/art complete
· Remain as Point person around project design - start to finish
· Design documentation – Creates, edits and updates documentation to communicate design intent to internal and overseas team members.
· Clearly communicate design and intent to our overseas team and ultimately to our manufacturers.
· Makes recommendations to management related new product schedules, progress in the development process and proposed changes in product designs and program execution.
· Responsible for project success whether project leader or as part of a project team.
SKILLS
· Must have an excellent sense of materials, color, and textures for a wide range of Boys and Girls styles.
· Must be able to evaluate design ideas based on factors such as appealing appearance, consistent packaging, materials and methods of engineering, application, budget, production costs, methods of production and client specifications.
· Advanced skills in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign required.
· Proficiency in Photoshop preferred. Rhino experience a plus
· Proficient working with Microsoft Office Suite.
· Must have excellent communication skills both written and verbal along with keen listening skills to ensure clear notes and feedback.
· Must collaborate effectively with others to ensure success across internal creative team as well as cross-functional and international partners.
· Strong presentation skills via remote technology is required.
· Must be extremely organized with a strong attention to detail.
· Excellent Sketching capabilities – can develop new ideas through rapid ideation, 2D sketching and 3D CAD while considering cost and manufacturability.
· DFM (Design for Manufacturing) – Understands broadly how toys are manufactured and creates well defined DFM specification
· Must be proactive and self-motivated, working well under tight deadlines with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
· Must have a positive attitude and be a strong team player in a collaborative environment.
EDUCATION
· Bachelor’s degree in Design or equivalent

· 5+ years experience designing Toys in the Family Entertainment Space, where profit margins are tight.
