EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED required.
SPECIALISED TECHNIQUES/KNOWLEDGE:
- Class A CDL (Commercial Driver’s License)
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, customers and general public

- Ability to work independently
- Maintain a good working knowledge of packing and shipping materials and products of all shapes, sizes and weights
- Basic Knowledge of diesel engines and the operation of refrigerated or ventilated trailers
GENERAL COMPETENCIES:
- Have superior hearing and eyesight as well as full and normal use of both arms and legs
- Must be able to manually lift, load and move pallets, equipment and other items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be physically and legally able to operate heavy machinery including Forklift’s and Pallet Jack’s
- Ability to sit upright while remaining aware and alert for long periods of time.
- Must have a Passport or ability to obtain one. Ability to cross into Canada.
Experience:
- Two (2) years’ experience in driving with Class A CDL..
Role and Core Function:
- This position is for Over the Road Driver for the transportation and handling of International Poultry Breeders Hatcheries Inc. day old chicks to our customers, it requires accuracy and timeliness of all job functions.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Specific
- Loads and unloads box trucks and ventilated trailers with day old chicks.
- Assist in the packing and/or re-packaging of items to ensure they are properly prepared for transportation.
- Inspect items being shipped for proper packaging as well as damage at each location.
- Maintain a truck log, according to state and federal regulations.
- Maintain telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions.
- Perform pre-trip truck, trailer and moffet forklift inspections as well as other equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil and water levels.
- Perform emergency roadside repairs such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, tire chains, spark plugs etc.
- Positions any necessary blocks, ties and or ropes to secure cargo during transit.
- Prepare delivery comment sheets and other receipts for each load delivered.
- Plan out the best route by checking road conditions and access before beginning each haul.
- Monitor the temperature of the goods and environment when transporting a ventilated trailer/box truck and immediately report any issues to the assigned supervisor.
- Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
- Ensure adherence to all current Quality and Safety, Health and Environment (QSHE) standards as well as current motor vehicle, security, food safety systems, policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Perform other functions as assigned from time to time.
- Ability to troubleshoot Truck/Trailer issues and repair/Manage small issues, such as resetting equipment or changing/operating generators.

- NORMAL WORKING HOURS: Due to the nature of this job, there are no specified normal working hours. Drivers may be required to drive at any time of the day on any day of the week in accordance with federal laws.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA:
THE JOB IS SATISFACTORILY PERFORMED WHEN:
- Products are delivered to the specified destination within an appropriate time frame and with little to no damage or dead on arrival (DOA).
- The employee maintains a good driving record with few to no driving violations including speeding or violations due to weight etc…
- A proper driving log is kept and signed off on by a supervisor.
- The provided company vehicle is properly maintained and kept in good working order.
- There are minimal losses due to poor handling of day old chicks.
- Quality standards of day old chicks being transported are maintained throughout the entire trip.
- All reports are turned in in a timely manner and show little to no discrepancies.
- Reimbursement receipts are submitted in a timely manner.
