St. Hilary’s Episcopal Church is seeking an experienced part-time Organist. The
music ministry carries a reputation of excellence and it seeks
someone who is passionate about the role of the organ in worship,
leading through hymns, voluntaries, and collaborating both with
singers and instrumentalist.
Duties include:
1. Play for weekly Sunday service (Sept to June, 10am; June to
September, 9am)
2. Accompany the Chancel Choir and Thursday evening rehearsals.
Choir sings September through June.
3. Accompany soloist and other smaller groups
4. Play for Seasonal services; Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday,
Easter Vigil, Easter Sunday, Lessons and Carols, Christmas Eve, Etc.
5. Play weddings and funerals (additional remuneration)
6. Oversee maintenance of Organ and Pianos
7. Attend weekly staff meetings either in person or on zoom.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. We are seeking a professionally trained musician who has
3 to 5 years experience as a church musician. A degree in music is preferred but
not necessary.
2. The candidate will understand and be comfortable in a range of
musical style.
3. Candidates should have enthusiasm and creativity in leading hymn
singing. We are accustomed to interesting hymn introductions,
modulations and free hymn harmonizations.
4. Ability to work with others, including clear communication skills is
necessary. The organist reports to the Director of Music and Rector.
5. Candidates should possess an understanding of the role of music to
contribute toward particular worship themes; additionally,
understanding of liturgy and the church year is important.
6. Although the primary function and need of this individual is as
organist, piano skills adequate for choral rehearsals and
accompaniments are necessary.
7. Technically, applicants will need to work with our Director of
Music, vocal soloists, and instrumentalists.
8. Knowledge of the Anglican liturgy is preferred but not necessary.
Instruments:
Our pipe organ is a 24 ranks, three manual instruments. We also have
three grand pianos; Sanctuary, Yamaha E, 1971; Choir room, Kawai,
1980; Browning Hall, Shaffer and Sons.

Salary and Benefits
Commensurate with skills and experience, the minimum salary for
this position is $18,000, negotiable. The position includes paid time
off and membership to The American Guild Of Organist, Southwest
Chapter. Church organ and pianos are available as teaching
instruments.
