The Woodlark Hotel is housed in two iconic 1900s buildings and is an elegant escape for our guests in the center of Portland. We are looking for a Part-Time Baker/Pastry Assistant to join our kitchen team. We bake pastries for the GOOD Coffee Shop located in our lobby, and we provide bread and desserts for our two restaurants: Bullard Tavern & Abigail Hall. We also create desserts and breads for our on-site events program. This position includes a wide range of baking techniques including mixing cookies and breads as well as making ice cream, sauces, fillings and daily pies. We make everything in-house and change menus seasonally.
What you’ll do:
Qualified candidates must be able to satisfactorily complete the following responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned:
- Bake pastries for the coffee shop and high tea before service starts each morning.
- Take inventory of the station and create a prep list for the day.
- Add to the prep list as items get low.
- Ensure the quality of desserts and components meet the standards of the restaurant.
- Stock and organize the dessert station with all components needed each day.
- Work with the Pastry Chef to create new seasonal items and specials.
- Production of dessert and pastry components.

- 1+ year of baking experience.
- High School diploma or higher.
- Able to work early mornings and weekends.

- Energetic, charismatic professional with excellent verbal communication skills.
- Communicate effectively with the kitchen team, restaurant management and Front of House staff.
- Complete projects when assigned.
- Perform duties calmly and effectively under pressure.
- Comprehensive understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
- Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks.
- Familiar with industry standards.
- Work safely with knives and all kitchen equipment.
- Keep the station organized, practicing FIFO (first in, first out), and maintaining food safety practices throughout shifts.
- Ability to work productively as a team or independently.

The typical environment is a busy kitchen with variable room temperatures, sufficient lighting and common kitchen equipment.
