Special Education Case Manager

Background:
Moving Everest Charter School opened its doors in August 2015 with 176 students enrolled in kindergarten and first grade in a newly constructed school building in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. We are now a K-8 school with almost 800 students!

Moving Everest Charter School seeks a highly organized and motivated Special Education Case Manager to join our school. Reporting to the Director of Diverse Learners, the Case Manager plays a critical role in building a rigorous education for diverse learner students. The Case Manager ensures that effective Individualized Education Plans are created and implemented to ensure student achievement. The Case Manager serves as a resource for school staff regarding special education best practices, works closely with students and their families to ensure the individual needs of the student are being met, and is responsible for maintaining compliance around State and Federal Law.
Qualifications
● Special education teaching experience in an urban setting.
● Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution required.
● Valid Illinois PEL required.
● Valid LBS1 Special Education Teacher Certification required.
Case Management Responsibilities
● Create and distribute a spreadsheet of all annual reviews, evaluation minutes, and para-assignments to comply with IDEA timelines and provide updates as needed.
● Facilitate the design and implementation of high-quality IEPs that effectively catalog student needs with clear objectives and outcomes in a timely manner.
● Ensure families are notified in writing at least 10 days before all conferences.
● Facilitate and coordinate all IEPs/504 meetings.
● Ensure parents and students receive all meeting paperwork and understand the IEP/504 process.
● Monitor and ensure implementation of all IEP services, accommodations and progress monitoring.
● Oversee the special education referral process, including collaborating with the School Principals and Directors of Instruction to ensure MTSS implementation and documentation.
● Obtain IEPs and special education files for newly enrolled students, and coordinate services for new students.
● Ensure all IEPs are relevant, measurable, rigorous and compliant with Federal and State Law.
● Ensure transition to high school plans are complete.
● Ensure all relevant staff have copies, keep confidential, and understand how to use student IEPs/504s.
● Meet regularly with special education teachers and paras, monitor IEP work, and provide feedback on IEPs.
● Collaborate and communicate effectively and promptly with families, investing them in their students’ academic and character goals.
● Manage Special Education files.
● Attend CPS and Moving Everest Special Education meetings and keep school staff informed of updates.
● Develop positive relationships with students.
● Develop positive relationships with families for the purpose of creating support for students and their growth.
● Possess an in-depth understanding of State and Federal Special Education Law and CPS Policies.
● Maintain accurate student data and records, and 100% compliance rate for completing all Annual Reviews, Initial and Three-Year Reevaluations according to State and Federal Law.
● Ability to work cooperatively and positively with students’ parents/guardians and with general education teachers.
● Strong technology skills
● In collaboration with the Instructional Leadership Team, scheduling Paraprofessionals in accordance with students’ IEPs and 504 Plans
● In collaboration with the Instructional Leadership Team, creating schedules for Special Education Teachers and Diverse Learners in accordance with students’ IEPs.
● Arranging special education and related services for a student within the school in accordance with the students IEP and contacting ODLSS to arrange assignment in another school if necessary to implement the IEP.
● Perform other duties as assigned by Principals and Director of Diverse Learners
