SE&C is seeking qualified candidates for a Principal Engineer /Mechanical (HVAC) Design Authority Engineer opportunity for our customer in Aiken, SC.
Title: Principal Engineer /Mechanical (HVAC) Design Authority Engineer
Contract Duration: Initial contract duration up to 1-year with potential for a longer-term assignment based on individual performance.
Location: Must be willing to work onsite near Aiken, SC
Rate: $60-$95/hr. based on qualifications and experience
Hours: 4/10’s (plus up to 600 hours O/T per year)

JOB DESCRIPTION
Education:
- BS Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and 10 years relevant work experience or MS Mechanical Engineering and 8 years relevant work experience.
Experience/Skills:
- 10+ years of design experience as a HVAC Engineer with demonstrated HVAC subject matter expertise with industrial and nuclear HVAC.
- Experience working with and establishing Technical Requirements for HVAC systems by developing System Design Descriptions (SDD) and reviewing design packages from design agencies is preferred.
- Experience performing modeling and simulation for HVAC Systems is preferred.
- Technical communication. Written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with Design change processes.
- Experience with code guidance and interpretation. Knowledge of ASHRAE and AG-1. Advanced knowledge of standard engineering/scientific practices and applications.
- Ability to walk down systems in the field and support construction.
- Nuclear Safety Basis experience related to HVAC systems.

· Define scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges which involve unique or controversial problems.
· Creatively meet all company and industry requirements and apply site systems to achieve quality, timely and cost-effective results.
· Give quality guidance and assistance to less senior professionals on related tasks.
· Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, to resolve complex problems.
· Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
· Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.
· Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new application of existing engineering or scientific principles.
· Evaluate the results of programs and prepares reports and recommendations based on these evaluations.
· Identify and recommend improvements where established technology components and methodology are inadequate for solution.
· Keep informed of the advancement of technology as applied through one's area of technology.
· Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving technical tasks identified by management.
· Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed.

· Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscripts form to customers colleagues and management.
· Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.
· Enhance expertise in field through leadership in local technical societies.

Work Hours:
- A 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRS utilizes various work schedules, including 5/8s (8 hours/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and a 9/80s (9 hours/day, five days on week A and 4 days on week B). Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has a 30-minute lunch. Work hours in excess of forty hours a week may be required, as authorized by SRNS management.
Area Security Access:
- Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. Supplier shall possess a positive FOCI determination from DOE which includes “Q” security clearance level. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties while clearance request is processing. After award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments. Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (“L” or “Q”) within the past two years are preferred.
