The Shipping/Receiving Clerk performs clerical and physical tasks in connection with shipping goods and receiving incoming shipments.
Essential Functions of the Position
- Assist the Shipping/Receiving Clerk Lead in verifying and maintaining records on incoming and outgoing shipments
- Consult or correspond with Shipping/Receiving Clerk Lead to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications
- Assemble, address, stamp, and ship merchandise or material.
- Receive, unpack, verify and record incoming merchandise or material.
- Arrange for the transportation of products
- Examine shipment contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy
- Order and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock
- Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, or shipping orders, to route materials.
- Pack, seal, label, or affix postage to prepare materials for shipping using hand tools, power tools, or postage meter.
- Record shipment data such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, or discrepancies for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes
- Deliver or route materials to departments using hand truck, conveyor, or sorting bins
- Compare shipping routes or methods to determine which have the least environmental impact.
- Handle the receiving, storing, and issuing of material and consumables
- Assist and coordinate upload/download of commercial line haul trucks
- Process inbound freight documentation
- Receive small package freight for shipment
- Unpack, examine and route incoming shipments, reject damaged items, record shortages, and correspond with shipper to rectify issues
- Receive and process all defective parts returned for replacement or credit
- Performs other relevant duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Demands
- Required to walk, stand, sit and move about the property for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, and stooping to handle of materials.
Work Environment
- Indoor/Outdoor; exposure to external environmental conditions possible.
- Noise level can range from minimal to intense.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2-3 years related experience.
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
- Must be able to speak, write, read, and understand English.
- Must be adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to new or changing instructions.
- Must be able to multi-task and complete assignments accurately and on time.
- Possess a Valid Drivers’ License.
