CONTRACT DURATION: 13 weeks contract to hire
SHIFT: M-F 8-5pm EST
LOCATION: remote
ONBOARDING TIME: Expect 2-3 weeks from offer acceptance to start date.

DETAILS ABOUT THE POSITION
JOB SUMMARY
The Trauma Registrar is responsible for the collection/abstraction of required state and national trauma data bank elements into the Trauma Registry database on all patients meeting state or national inclusion criteria. The Trauma Registrar maintains the confidentiality of the registry data and provides data as appropriate for research.
- Work is assigned by a work que. The work items are assigned via cases. The facility normally treats 60-80 patients a month and could be upwards of 100+, which the Manager said is a lot for this area and all the work is revolved around trauma.
The Trauma registrar reports to the Trauma program Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Performs basic data collection of demographics and coding of clinical and follow-up data from all sources into trauma registry database
2. Interacts with physicians, nurses, and other members of the trauma team and trauma patients to perform trauma registry functions,
3. Keeps registry current as defined by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services (NCOEMS) as 80% complete within 60 days of patient discharge.
4. Determines appropriateness of patient entry into the Trauma Registry based on guidelines in the American College of Surgeons “Resources for the Optimal Care of the Injured Patient” as well as the National Trauma Data Standard.
5. Provides high quality data entry by abstraction of required state and national trauma data elements from the patient chart in real time and retrospectively.
6. Participates in quality assurance, data validation, and improvement activities to ensure accuracy of data collection and timely submission of data according to State Trauma Registry and the American College of Surgeons Optimal Resource Document for Trauma Centers.
7. Understands mapping concepts and validates mapping of registry software for Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB), and the state.
8. Resolves patterns of mechanism and injury during case abstraction in order to contribute to opportunities for injury prevention and community safety.
9. Reports data in formats such as Excel and/or PowerPoint for both internal and external consumption (includes statistical, clinical, and research data).
10. Establishes and maintains professional relationships with patient care providers, management, and physicians
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Range of motion within functional limits. Functional hearing and vision. Requires sitting frequently. Both handedness (both hands must be used). Occasional lifting of 20# from floor to shoulder height. Manual dexterity, visual color discrimination and visual depth perception required
TYPICAL WORK CONDITIONS
Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours, potential exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a long-term care and hospital environment.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
***Needs candidates with experience. There is no training outside of helping the contractor get set up in this facility’s software programs, showing dept specific processes and procedures for the role, etc. This hire will work side by side with someone from the dept to get set up on day 1 but they are unable to train on how to do the work itself.
This position is like a Coding Auditor with a focus on trauma. Candidates must have coding/auditing experience and have worked with trauma.
3+ years coding experience OR previous experience working with trauma registry databases OR handling medical information in a healthcare setting; required. Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) or Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR); preferred.
Needs Epic, B5, and Citrix experience
Must have a CAISS Certification
EMT or Paramedic experience; preferred.
If not previously completed, within one (1) year of hire complete:
1. The American Trauma Society’s Trauma Registry Course or equivalent provided by a state trauma program
AND
2. The Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine’s Injury Scaling Course
