We are seeking an experienced Front Desk/Medical Assistant for a Cardiovascular practice located in Desoto , Texas. Qualified candidates will have solid experience in a medical practice in a Medical Assistant role. Prior experience in cardiovascular preferred. Bilingual a plus!
Responsibilities include:
- Greets and screens all patients, vendors and visitors before they enter the clinic, including taking the person’s temperature and reviewing and documenting the COVID19 screening questions. Checks in patients.
- Notifies medical staff of patients’ arrival.
- Assists patients and family with instructions, directions, and information.
- Directs phone calls and/or leaves messages for very busy medical staff in EMR system.
- Obtain all information for billing: photo id, insurance card, and other medically necessary information to file claims.
- Collects patient balances and co-pays.
- Verify eligibility, dates of coverage, benefits and out of pockets costs for specialty services. Communicate benefits and coverage with patients.
- Expedite patient referrals from primary care and other offices, fax medical records, and answer patient and office inquiries.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with referring providers and diagnostic facilities to facilitate patient scheduling.
- Process referrals within guidelines related to referral productivity thresholds and turnaround times.
- Update referral database.
- Communicate approval or denial of referral authorization to patient and referring provider.
- Maintains an orderly reception area and sanitizes front office space throughout the day.
- Checking schedules and organizing patient flow.
- Accompanying patients to exam/procedure room.
- Assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
- Collecting patient history.
- Performing screenings per provider guidelines.
- Assisting physicians/nurses with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families.
- Answering calls and providing pertinent information.
- Utilizes and enters data in EMR systems (eCW preferred).
- Attend required meetings and participates in training programs as required.
- Understand and adhere to HIPAA policies, procedures and regulations to ensure and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Skills and Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalency required.
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
- Maintain current BLS, CPR, First Aid or other certifications required of position.
- At least 1 year front desk experience.
- Understanding of insurance verification and copays required.
- Knowledge of various medical insurance plans; including co-insurance, deductibles, and out-of-pocket.
- Ability to solve problems possesses sound and accurate judgment.
- Ability to set priorities and handle demanding schedules.
- Must have the capability to work under minimal supervision and maintain detailed organization in a fast paced, high volume environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle high volume and stressful situation in a calm and professional manner.
- Has the ability to set priorities and work independently while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
Computer Skills:
- Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook
- EMR software experience; eCW preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
