Scope & Purpose of Position:
The Team Lead assumes responsibility for the success of all direct care operations during their assigned shift and for coordinating the team of Direct Care staff who provide daily support and services to clients in a low barrier shelter and residential facility. The Team Lead’s primary responsibility is to ensure the security and safety of the overall site, thereby facilitating an emotional and physical environment conducive to positive guest morale and engagement. The Team Lead also provides coaching and support to assigned Direct Care.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Establishes positive, constructive team dynamic among Direct Care staff on shift. Leads shift change communication and develops a plan at the beginning of each shift, assigning tasks for service delivery and site observation to each team member and ensuring adequate coverage across all Main Street programs, which include emergency shelter dormitories for women, men, and families; transitional beds for veterans; and medical and behavioral health respite beds.
· Models constructive, positive attitude with clients, management, volunteers, and other site staffing.
· Ensures effective shift operation, including both routine procedures and critical incident response.
· Provides coaching and technical support to junior members of Direct Care staffing.
· Trains new Direct Care staff in shift responsibilities, role models effective service delivery, and provides feedback to support effective onboarding and skill-building.
· In partnership with Direct Care team, assures that dormitory space is ready for new arrivals and assures the presence of adequate supplies, storage, and sleeping arrangements. Assists clients with attending to any immediate or emergency needs upon arrival. Assists Coordinators with orienting clients to site and program.
· In partnership with Direct Care team, assures thorough and accurate completion of intake card to document the arrival of new guests. Fully orients new guests to the site and to the program’s expectations, guidelines, and assistance.
· Assists with meal preparation, service, and clean-up. Performs daily meal and occupancy counts.
· Participates in routine activities throughout the shift, including storing client possessions, assigning beds, supervising showers and common areas, phone use, TV, accepting and recording donations, making rounds, dorm checks and all other operational details.
· Monitors shelter facility and promptly reports maintenance or repair needs. Assists in maintaining clean, safe, well-maintained grounds through regular observation of outside activity, debris removal, and reporting of any safety hazards.
· Maintains concise, detailed notes in log of activities, events, or incidents during shift, including times and descriptions of client behavior, in order to help other staff work more effectively with clients. Periodically reviews written communication of Direct Care staff on shift and provides guidance and support with effective documentation practices as indicated.
· Assists with program activities on-site as needed.
· Provides supportive environment for guests, maintaining constructive, collaborative partnership with guests and other staff. Assists guests with navigating and resolving challenges in a professional, constructive manner.
· Demonstrates initiative with troubleshooting solutions while on-shift and exercises good judgment. Works independently but seeks supervision as needed and appropriate.
· Maintains flexibility and deals effectively with changing client needs, changing building conditions, staff shortages, or any other unexpected conditions that may arise on the shift.
· Works with volunteers, donors, and other community in positive and helpful way, representing South Park Inn professionally.
· Supports smooth day-to-day functioning of the programs, including staff and resident communication; night shifts procedures; resolution of problems; receipt, storage, and tracking of donations; critical incident response and documentation; etc.
· Provide immediate and professional response to any security/safety emergency or disturbance within or immediately outside facility. Communicates with Direct Care Team Leader and on-call Coordinator as needed to assure effective coverage of critical incidents.
· Assists with room cleanings and house laundry.
· On occasion assists with simple routine clerical tasks.
· Presents professional appearance, dressing neatly and in compliance with dress code.
· Delivers services according to the principles of harm reduction and trauma-informed care.
· Makes sure all routine checks are made throughout the shift, ensuring that alarms are set, and checking all areas such as storage, kitchen, and dorms.
· Models punctuality and responsible attendance, calling out at least four hours in advance whenever possible.
· Advocates for the mission of the organization and upholds agency values. Comply with agency and program policies and procedures.
· Timely completes all internal communication, including incident reports and program logs.
· Assists Shelter Manager with program planning, implementation, and evaluation, as needed.

Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in human services.
· Experience within human services preferred, particularly within the fields of housing and homelessness.
· Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates strongly preferred.
· Ability to provide nonjudgmental, compassionate support to guests overcoming addiction and mental illness. Working knowledge of recovery and harm reduction principles.
· Lived experience of homelessness or housing instability a plus.
· Experience in team leadership and high-volume, trauma-informed service delivery to diverse client demographics.
· Available to work nights and weekends, including occasional schedule changes.
· Commitment to the cause of homeless individuals and families.
· Attend mandatory trainings and staff meetings.
· Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Office Suite.
· Availability to work nights and weekends across programs and to accommodate new scheduling as necessary.
