Job Summary
The Sr Completions Engineer – Onshore engineer is responsible for the preparation of cost estimates, Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) generation, efficient procedures, and providing technical support to field operations for completions and workovers.
The Sr Completions Engineer will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remote.
Responsibilities
Responsible for onshore completions, workovers and abandonments across the United States and Canada
Responsible for preparation of efficient completion/workover procedures and providing technical support to field team during operations. Capture operational lessons learned
Prepare and develop detailed completions/workover procedures and execute completions operations efficiently with a commitment and proactive approach to HSSE
Design completion/workover programs to achieve corporate goals, minimize non-production time and optimize contractor management
Prepare detailed cost estimates and create AFE’s. Track costs and drive continuous improvement
Develop specifications and assist in preparation of tender documents for completion hardware and services
Provide operational and engineering technical support to onsite completion/workover wellsite supervisors
Work within a multi-disciplinary team with subsurface and production teams to ensure well completion designs are fit for purpose
Optimize hydraulic frac designs and completion methods in unconventional shale reservoirs by utilizing historical analysis and exploring new well completions technologies
Evaluate the execution of well completion/workover programs and operational performance. Incorporate lessons learned in completions best practices
Recommend and conduct engineering studies to improve well operational and production performance. Perform post analysis and benchmarking studies. Evaluate new technologies.
Optimize completion/workover procedures by incorporating calculations such as tubing design, nodal analysis, torque and drag modeling, frac modeling and frac simulation
Maintain well work rig schedules that are prioritized to maximize production and minimize costs
Track KPI’s and seek opportunities for improvement. Post and present KPI’s quarterly. Maintain a continuous improvement mentality
Review and correct daily well view reports, tubing tallies & rod tallies etc. for completeness and accuracy
Review and approve invoices
Pursue sustainable operations with an emphasis on water recycling and alternative fuel sources. Challenge the norm
Ensuring safe and efficient execution of all activities in compliance with the Murphy Drilling and Wells Operating Policy (DWOP) Manual and Safety Manual
Individual will be expected to contribute to the day-to-day processes as well as demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset
Licenses/ Certifications
Registered as a professional engineer in Alberta and BC is a plus
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering
Minimum 8 years’ experience in engineering and operations, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in intervention operations and completions
Ability to multi-task multiple projects at once
Must be able to spend up to 20% of time in the field supporting ops
Successful candidates demonstrate the ability to learn quickly, improve processes, and maintain best control environment
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the Eagle Ford Shale play in Texas, USA
Experience in the Montney play in British Columbia, CA and Duverney play in Alberta, CA
Field experience, production engineering and artificial lift design experience
Proven ability to function well in team environment
Excellent presentation and communication skills
Demonstrated leadership potential
