Summary: The job responsibilities of the Patient Registration Specialist will be to serve in the Emergency Department between 3 locations.The Patient Registration Specialist shall be dually trained in regard to job functions within the Business Office department as they apply to patient registration and front desk operations. The Front Office Lead shall assign primary duties and responsibilities for any given scheduled shift. The primary assignment shall mean that the employee shall be primarily responsible and obligated for the work capacity for which he or she is asked to fulfill during the shift. This does not mean that the employee will not be requested, during this shift, to fulfill some requirements in any additional capacity.

- High School Graduate or GED equivalent, must be able to produce a copy of a diploma or official transcript
- College preferred but not required.
- Proficiency of insurance verification and EMR systems
- Patient Registration/Front Desk experience in a freestanding ER experience - 2+ years
- Proficiency of Microsoft Office applications including Word /Excel / Outlook and internet navigation programs required.
- Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS)
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs front office registration duties such as verification of eligibility (insurance verification), data entry of patient demographic information, consents, and HIPAA paperwork, and receipt of payment as needed.
a. Assist in scanning patient chart attachments to the EMR to archive patient medical record and make such record available to for electronic retrieval and access.
b. May assist in entering information on financial logs as needed for front desk operation.
c. Assists in processing patient payment with operating credit card terminal, check terminals and/or properly log cash receipts into ledger as required by policy
2. Supports in the performance of various office duties such as filing, shredding, data entry as needed or required by administration.
3. Monitors fax machine, emails, and mail
4. Works in collaboration with other administrative and facility staff to ensure compliance with HIPAA rule and standards as applicable to patient medical records, patient care, and diagnostic testing to include but is not limited to patient medical charts and other protected health information (PHI).
a. Maintains confidentiality of patient-related issues as outlined by HIPAA and company policies.
5. Fully complies with the guidelines per the Infection Control and Prevention Plan and any applicable Center for Disease Control (CDC) or Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) requirements relative to the operations of the facility.
a. Ensures operation and processes of the Emergency Department including any applicable standards of care are maintained at the highest possible level in all aspects in the areas of quality assurance, risk management, and life safety.
6. Assists in reporting all conditions and injury as required by state, federal and local laws including but not limited to reportable diseases, animal bites, sexual assaults, abuse, neglect, and others as required.
7. May be required to undergo periodic review and on-site skill testing.
8. Works in cooperation with other administrative and facility staff to ensure overall departmental compliance topics and matters, directly and indirectly, related to quality assurance; risk management and life safety as applied to patient care and employee safety.
9. Reports any violations of policies and procedure, including any incidents of Infection Control, Patient Safety, Safety Violation, and Hazards to Administration.
10. Completes or produces various reports that are required or requested by the Front Office Lead or Director of Nursing
11. Performs medical record quality assurance reviews that are required or requested by the Front Office Lead or Director of Nursing
12. Ensures all test results and other portions of the patient chart are properly reconciled to the patient medical record.
13. Performs daily/weekly/monthly inventories of supplies and equipment to ensure the proper working order and adequate par levels
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
