General Description
The primary objectives of this position are to oversee warehouse to include food safety, and inventory and to ensure the safe and expeditious handling of product to our agencies and clients. The Food Safety Director will help to develop, implement and enforce food defense/security standards, policies and programs including HAACP, GMP’s regulatory audits, food safety training and education programs, standard operating procedures, and product inspections. This position will also help manage the Food Endowment Program and ensure inventories are available to support HOPE, TEXCAP, and Community Kitchen programs.
Essential Functions:
Oversees warehousing, food safety, and inventory to provide adequate and desired product to partner agencies of the San Antonio Food Bank, New Braunfels Food Bank, Concho Valley Food Bank and Pearsall in accordance with operational procedures.
Oversee food safety and food defense programs of the SAFB, NBFB, CVFB and Pearsall
Develop processes and procedures to ensure safe receipt, storage, transportation and distribution of all products.
Provide qualified, professional guidance to all staff members regarding food safety and food defense regulations.
Conduct regular internal food safety/food defense audits.
Regularly updates policies and procedures based on current food safety and food defense industry standards.
Coordinates with Food Resourcing, Volunteer Operations and Compliance concerning all aspects of acquisition and distribution of goods.
Supervises warehouse and inventory operations staff and ensures their certification and training relative to their duties and assignments.
Ensures a safe work environment for all safety sensitive position in operations.
Supervises inventory team to ensure accurate and timely inventory practices that support good inventory across all programs and operations.
Complies with the requirements as set forth by local, state, and national regulatory agencies.
Complies with the standards set forth by Feeding America.
Assures maintenance of warehouse and transportation forklift equipment for the San Antonio Food Bank, Concho, New Braunfels Food Bank and Pearsall.
Oversees assigned resources in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
Ensures that the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood.
Provides written and measurable outputs and outcomes for all leads and teams supervised.
Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training and supervising warehouse and inventory employees.
Assigns work; conducts performance appraisals rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolves issues related to warehouse, and inventory.
Assumes the supervisory responsibility for TDCJ inmates, and other voluntary parties in the Warehouse Operations.
Supports safety programming and serves on the Safety Committee.
Works alongside other Directors and Chiefs to ensure the most effective and optimized logistical planning.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
College degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, contracts, and applicable documents in product acquisition and distribution.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to use computer systems consistent with operation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Skills in computer applications i.e., word processing and database oversight
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
Attention to detail, accuracy, and the meeting of deadlines.
Ability to work cooperatively with other Food Bank staff, donors, and volunteers.
Ability to supervise others and delegate appropriate tasks.

Work Environment
This job is performed in an indoor office environment and occasionally may require attendance at outdoor events. You may be required to drive to different locations with varying conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
