Position Summary:
As an integral part of the NO|MA House culinary team, the Artisan Baker is responsible for crafting a variety of high-quality baked goods, including artisanal breads, pastries, and desserts, using traditional techniques and the finest ingredients. The ideal candidate will have a passion for baking, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to maintain the highest standards of quality and presentation.
Education & Experience:
· Minimum of 2+ years of baking or relevant culinary experience (Baking/Pastry Certificate is a plus).
· Knowledge of baking techniques, basic recipes, and equipment.
· Food Handler’s Certificate (ServSafe or ANSI compliant organization).
Required Skills / Abilities:
· Availability to work early morning shifts.
· Ability to perform basic math skills (e.g. measurements and conversions, proportion and ratio, scaling and batching, and time and temperature).
· Team-player who can also work independently with minimal supervision.
· Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
· Ability to frequently lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds (e.g. heavy bags of flour and other baking supplies).
· Ability to perform work that requires the following motions: standing, walking, bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and reaching, bending/twisting at waist and neck, reaching above/below the shoulders; and hand motions such as single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
· Ability to use ladders or step stools to reach ingredients/supplies.
· Working proficiency of English language.
Duties / Responsibilities:
· Prepare and bake in-house a variety of bread, pastries, and other baked goods according to the day’s production schedule.
· Acquire and maintain a thorough knowledge of NO|MA House’s bakery offerings.
· Measure, mix, and prepare products according to NO|MA House specifications and recipes.
· Conduct quality checks on ingredients and finished products to ensure freshness, taste, and appearance meet NO|MA House standards.
· Operate baking equipment (e.g. mixers, proof box, sheeter/laminator, ovens, bread slicer, knives, etc.)
· Work with and around flour/grains, dairy, fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, and/or other food allergens.
· Monitor inventory levels of baking supplies and ingredients, notifying the Kitchen Manager when restocking is needed.
· Assist in receiving and organizing deliveries, ensuring proper storage and rotation of ingredients to maintain freshness.
· Cleaning and sanitization of work area, utensils, dishware, and equipment, to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment that adheres to health and safety standards, including proper food handling, storage, and preparation techniques.
· Perform opening duties as assigned by Kitchen Manager.
· Assist the Kitchen Manager with preparing special orders or customized baked goods as needed.
· Efficiently manage time to complete all assigned tasks within the shift, ensuring baked goods are ready for sale when NO|MA House opens for business.
· This position may also require agility, adaptability, and the ability to pivot quickly in response to changing situations. You may be asked to jump in and help the team in a variety of ways not listed in this position description.
Schedule:
· NO|MA House Café and Collective is open from 7:00am – 5:00pm, Wednesday-Sunday.
· The schedule for this position is 2:00am – 8:00am, Wednesday-Sunday.
