POSITION SUMMARY
The Space Force is defending our future today and every day. Our mission is to protect our country and our freedom to operate in space. Our defense relies on cybersecurity across a global multitude of advanced computers and software. It is the Cyber Operations Specialist’s job to protect our operations across areas of defense, radio frequency and satellite communications systems. They assess and report vulnerabilities, repair and install client systems, and protect our network infrastructure, ensuring missions and communications run efficiently.
CAREER DUTIES
- Install ground radio, satellites and telemetry communications systems.
- Support specialized utility programs to collect systems and network data.
- Conduct and support cyber mission planning, briefing, executions and debriefing.
- Assess, report and deter threats to space assets.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and deploy ground-level and orbital networks and devices to support warfighters.
- Troubleshoot, install and upgrade network systems and circuits.
- Deter threats to space assets by way of defense operations.
- Perform wireless radio and satellite systems and equipment maintenance.

BASE SALARY
Every active-duty Guardian is paid equally based on rank and years of service. From the moment you put on your uniform, you’re eligible for additional compensation based on your job and station.
INSURANCE
Guardians and their families receive top-of-the-line, low-rate insurance plans. Each has comprehensive medical and dental care at military or civilian facilities. Additionally, we provide full pay and allowances for sick days and life insurance.
RETIREMENT
Guardians receive a generous retirement plan within the Blended Retirement System. The benefits are similar to many civilian 401(k) plans with employer-matched contributions. This plan combines two main sources of retirement savings: a monthly retirement income for Guardians who serve a minimum of 20 years and the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which includes automatic and matching government contributions.
RECREATION
Most Space Force bases are equipped with golf courses, tennis courts, swimming pools, full-service gyms and arts-and-crafts facilities. All are either free to use or are available at lower rates than similar facilities off base.
VACATION AND TRAVEL
All military Guardians get 30 days of vacation with pay per year. They can travel on Air Force aircraft to almost any U.S. state and many international destinations. Additionally, for destinations near military facilities, Guardians qualify for reduced-rate hotel lodging.
EDUCATION
Enlisting in the Space Force offers a wide range of educational opportunities including scholarships for Guardians who wish to pursue ongoing education. Enlisted Guardians can receive up to 100 percent tuition assistance through the Air Force Tuition Assistance Program, the Montgomery GI Bill or Post-9/11 GI Bill. Members select which option to take based on what’s best for them.
QUALIFICATIONS
This job requires military service with a contract as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Space Force. The application is for a specific position within the U.S. Space Force.
MINIMUM EDUCATION
- High school diploma, GED or GED with 15 college credits
- Courses in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are desirable.
- An associate’s degree or higher in relevant fields and/or information technology (IT) certifications are also beneficial.
- ASVAB requirements: general minimum score of 60–64 based on specialty
- Completion of Cyber Systems Operations Initial Skills course
- Completion of a current National Agency Check with Local Agency Checks and Credit Check
- Successful completion of a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
- Completion of Basic Military Training
- Must be between the ages of 17 and 39
