Analytical Technician

Westmoreland Mechanical Testing & Research is looking to fill our Analytical Technician role. An Analytical Technician is detail oriented and uses machining tools to prepare metal samples for various chemical analyses. Once trained, you will utilize analytical instrumentation to determine the chemical composition of the metal samples. Analytical instrumentation includes, ICP, ARC Spark, ICP-MS, GFAA, Combustion & IGF gas analyzers, and XRF. You will be working with Titanium, Aluminum, Nickel, and Iron alloys from companies across the globe.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Using acids such as HCl, HNO3, and HF to digest material
- Using bolt cutters, band saws, mills, and grinders for sample prep purposes
- Prioritizing jobs to ensure they are completed in the correct order
- Using pipettes to transfer digestions and calibration standards into the appropriate containers
- Maintaining/cleaning the instrumentation being used to ensure proper functionality
- Maintaining quality integrity and documentation for safety-critical customer requirements
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned
- Reporting when consumables are needed for respective equipment
- Typical 8-hour shifts are available within the hours of 7am-5pm. Overtime and weekend hours occasionally available.
Qualifications and Skills:
- US Citizenship required
- High school diploma or GED required
- Background in chemistry, lab or machining experience preferred
- Willingness and ability to learn; will train the right person!
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong time management skills
- The ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Experience in quality systems and a regulatory driven environment
- Working knowledge of sample prep/digestion preferred
- Hands-on mechanical experience a plus
- Ability to lift up to 45 lbs.
- Ability to stand, sit, or move around for prolonged periods of time
