YOUTH COUNSELOR
The Youth Counselor is responsible for counseling assigned residents experiencing emotional distress in order to help them accept their past, cope with their present and plan for their future. They also ensure that youth needs are met in a safe and supportive atmoshphere. They are required to work with youth and discuss any issues resulting in incidents of emotional distress, while providing professional, non-judgmental feedback and support. All of these interactions must also be documented and shared with other staff.
Education: A minimum of a high school diploma and must be at least 21 years of age. Must be able to read and write.
Experience: One year of experience working with youth.

Job Duties:
· Youth Counselors will counsel with youth, individually and in groups.
· Position will be responsible for providing group services including curriculum-based groups, recreational groups, self-improvement, life skills and support groups.
· Youth Counselors are responsible for knowing youth’s needs and personalities and providing appropriate supervision accordingly.
· Ensures the opportunities for skill development in the areas of personal hygiene, decision making, independent living skills and problem solving occur for youth in the program.
· Ensures that youth are dressed and groomed appropriately for scheduled activities.
· Ensures that youth clean their rooms/areas.
· Enroll and discharge youth from school as needed.
· Provides a safe environment for all youth and staff in the Creighton Oaks.
· Position will intervene when youth who are engaging in behaviors that are contrary to program rules and encourage youth to comply with program rules in a non-confrontational manner.
· Administer medications to youth as needed.
· Position will be expected to use the behavior management program as a teaching tool.
· Position will be required to document all incidents involving youth accidents, injuries, illness, signs of emotional distress, visitors, medications and other information.
· Transports residents to off campus activities as directed.
· Maintains a valid Texas driver's license and insurance.
· Checks vehicle for safety prior to use and maintains mileage logs, drives in a lawful and safe manner.
· Completes all data entry and paperwork assigned.
· Completes incident reports as necessary. Completes progress notes for each resident and notes all pertinent information in client file.
· Arrives at work on time and calls in when absent or lateness is unavoidable and uses Adp as required. Follows protocol when taking off work or calling in sick.
· Reports child abuse allegations and emotional or physical abuse of a child according to minimum standards and Creighton Oaks policy and procedures.
· Marks, launders and folds clothing.
· Attends staff meetings, mandatory trainings and maintains annual training hours required by licensing.
· Maintains required CPR, First Aid and CPI training certification.
· Works as a professional team player and is respectful to co-workers.
· May be required to assume additional responsibilities as needed.
· Uses verbal and physical intervention to ensure the safety of youth, staff and property.
· Follows weekly recreation schedule and menus.
· Reports and completes work orders as needed and secures area for safety.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 36 per week
