- Experience processing all forms of special education paperwork.
- Experience training special education certificated and classified staff.
- Knowledge of State and Federal laws governing Special Education Programs for children with
disabilities in Alaska.
Preference:
Inupiaq speaking and cultural experience, preferred
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in monitoring, implementing, and evaluating effectiveness of evidence-based interventions for
students in a variety of academic settings.
Reviews all school IEPs to ensure quality and compliance and ensure accuracy of information in
Embrace and PowerSchool databases.
Coordinates with principals regarding caseloads, schedules, special education transportation needs,
and special education state assessment processes.
Schedule, process, and support related service staff and contractors.
Oversees special education eligibility and re-evaluation processes. Serve as a contact to the Response
to Intervention (RTI) team and the 504 staff
Coordinates all related services for special education placement.
Assist the school psychologist in the development of all Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP) and
Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA), and Manifestation Determination Meetings.
Implements Child Find process.
Fosters parental participation in the special education process;
Support the Student Services Department to ensure procedural safeguards and Assurances are met.
Ensures transition services and credit recovery opportunities are coordinated.
Support schools and families to participate during the October child count process.
Train and update staff regarding special education processes and classroom instructional practices.
Attends, facilitate, and participates in faculty and department meetings.
Oversee the 504-process including the referral process, service delivery approach, monitoring
reporting.
Facilitate and support the use of technology in current practices.
Relate to staff, students, and parents, in ways that convey equality, mutual respect, and concern
