Aurora Organic Dairy, a 2024 USA Top Workplace is hiring! Our finance and accounting team is growing, and we are hiring for a Plant Accounting Manager. This is a hybrid position and an excellent opportunity to work with a 100% organic dairy.
Hybrid schedule includes 2 days work from home and 3 days in office.
Plant Accounting Manager
Purpose:
The primary functions of the Plant Accounting Manager include general and cost accounting. The position ensures that the plant’s accounting processes and systems comply with company policies, applicable regulations and provide required information. Responsibilities include preparation of financial, production output and other reports used to measure and control plant activities and costs. The Plant Accounting Manager will be responsible for the accounting for 2 plants. The role is committed to working in a team-oriented environment with a service attitude, and participating in numerous ad-hoc projects. The position reports to the Plant Controller.
Essential Responsibilities:
Responsible for the financial closing and reporting; summarizing and analyzing financial performance, and business operations; inventory management and related activities; fixed asset accounting; budget support; internal controls; year-end audit and tax deliverables.
Specifically:
- Perform monthly closing of financials for the facility in accordance with GAAP, with full responsibility for plant costs and accruals, income statement and balance sheet, including all reconciliation, review and analysis activities, purchase price variance and volume variance reporting, identification of out of period expenses and their impact on current month results; ensure all aspects of the month end close process adhere to proper procedures and controls; ensure all deadlines are met; perform other month end close duties such as animal feed tracking and gift card counts; perform quarterly maintenance and repair inventory procedures and reconcile to the GL
- Perform plant milk balancing activities
- Prepare reports for regulatory agencies, as assigned by your manager
- Compile and reconcile plant physical inventories to system/GL balances
- Maintain inventory control, including variance analysis, and obsolescence monitoring
- Track and safeguard fixed assets including physical inventories of fixed assets and reconciliations between the physical, GL and fixed asset software (Sage)
- Participate in all audits as required, including financial and regulatory audits; resolve exceptions by adjusting procedures to ensure future compliance with deficiencies
- Ensure that internal controls are followed; periodically review procedures for proper compliance and function; alert plant management and accounting staff of critical issues or weaknesses
- Conduct operational financial analysis for both corporate & operational management stakeholders
- Perform operational analysis, trend projections, ROI, actual vs. budget metrics
- Provide scheduled or ad-hoc financial reporting of production and expense metrics to plant General Manager or other stakeholders, as requested by your manager
- Support the plant management team in reaching the financial goals of the business
- Provide support in the preparation of periodic forecasts
- Become familiar with state and local sales and use tax statutes and ensure accurate application to all purchases including capital purchases, manufacturing materials and supplies
- Write test plans and test ERP system outputs as needed
- Ensure all SOPs for job duties are complete and current
- Ad hoc reporting and other duties as assigned
Other Required Responsibilities:

- Familiarity with manufacturing ERPs with the ability to troubleshoot; enter and reconcile data; research transactions and outages; review raw material receiving, production entry and inventory adjustments; vet and roll out additional functionality over time
- Self-starter possessing a strong work ethic and appropriate sense of urgency; good planning and organizational skills; dependable and trustworthy
- Familiarity with reading and interpreting contracts
- Ability to organize and facilitate meetings.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
- 7 or more years cost accounting in a manufacturing environment
- Excellent analytical skills
- Sound understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Intermediate knowledge of standard cost/inventory systems
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, various lookup functions, complex formulas, etc.)
- Strong skills in other Microsoft Office products
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit and focus for extended periods of time in front of a computer screen and/or while utilizing various office equipment (calculators, copy machines, etc.).
