Position Summary
The Accounting Manager & Grants is responsible for working closely with the Finance Leadership to maintain financial systems, policies, and procedures that are integrated and compliant with federal and state regulations. This role will also be responsible for overseeing the management of public funds the organization receives. These duties would include, but not necessarily be limited to, submitting any reports to the appropriate public agencies associated with these funds, monitoring KABOOM!’s compliance with the applicable laws, rules, and regulations which govern the use of these funds, conducting any research regarding questions of eligible use of these funds, and ensuring that the management of these funds conforms to KABOOM!’s internal controls and audit practices as well as those of the public entity which acts as the source of that funding. The Accounting Manager & Grants will oversee day-to-day general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Accounting and Reporting
- Perform month-end closing procedures, including bank reconciliations, fixed assets, operating leases, depreciation calculations, investment reconciliations, rent analysis and payroll accounting
- Prepare monthly journal entries
- Review and make adjusting entries as needed to ensure accurate monthly reporting
- Prepare monthly operating report and monthly financial reports
- Prepare and distribute monthly department budget reports
- Reconcile unrestricted fund accounts and other accounts, as needed
- Oversee day-to-day management of the accounts receivable and accounts payable accountants
- Reconcile and record monthly payroll journal entries
- Assist in the preparation of information and reconciliation for annual audits (financial and 990 tax)
- Lead implementation of new system development (time sheet and project reporting)
- Perform other department related duties as may be requested or required. Other duties as assigned
Grants
- Prepare and track all the reporting requirements KABOOM! will file as a result of its receipt of any public grant or other form of government sponsored assistance
- Ability to interpret government guidelines in the use, reporting, and monitoring of public funds
- Monitor and advise program staff and leadership on any changes to a public funder’s rules, regulations, and/or statutory requirements
- Ensures the organization use of public funds is in compliance with any applicable rule, regulation, and/or statutory requirement
- Assists with the design and implementation of any internal controls to ensure public funding streams are easily accounted for and spent in a manner consistent with their intent
- Review budget instructions and provide supporting documentation for state registration compliance.
- Prepares any budget modification requests which may be needed
- Works with public funding agency staff to resolve any issues which may arise over the life of a grant or other form of public funding
- Ensures there is a protocol in place to maintain records for whatever period of time is prescribed by the funder and in compliance with KABOOM!’s internal accounting practices
Education and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience, with at least 3 years of experience working in grants management or public contracting
- Accounting experience must include experience with accounting software packages
- Must be proficient in using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Two-years of supervisory experience
- Understanding of non-profit accounting and project accounting
- Ability to identify, research, and analyze possible errors in budget and/or financial records recommending resolutions or process improvements
- Ability to organize, prepare and consolidate spreadsheets necessary to generate budget, financial, and ad hoc reporting
- Attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with colleagues
- Good organization and detail management skills, demonstrated by the ability to multi-task and work on numerous projects simultaneously
- A strong ethical character capable of handling confidential and financial information is important
- Public accounting experience; CPA a plus
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant experience
- Familiar with Navision/ Business Central accounting system
- Experience with Salesforce

- Salary: $90’s
