Job Description:
The Injection Molding Technician is responsible for all aspects of the Injection Molding processes including changing out molds, completing setups, troubleshooting, operation, and
maintenance of injection molding equipment.
Essential Job Function:
Oversee mold and material changing process and ensure that all aspects of the production meet the required standards. This includes setting up mold changes, ensuring that housekeeping standards are met, and making adjustments as necessary to ensure that the molded parts meet the necessary requirements. Train and coach machine operators to ensure that they are following proper procedures and adhering to all safety, quality, and work rules and regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Able to make significant process changes to the machine to produce good parts independently of using set-up book to achieve maximum results.
- Independent tool change including set-up of auxiliary equipment such as hot runners and watering.
- Work with Operations Manager to implement strategies to improve overall efficiency of the department.
- Work with robots and end of arm tooling.
- Perform SPC inspections to ensure parts are conforming.
- Troubleshoot equipment: Conveyors, sprue pickers, thermolators, and hot runner controllers.
- Run operations as necessary to fill in for absenteeism.
- Assist in the training and development of team members.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- RJG or Paulson Training, preferably
- Master Molder Certificate, preferably
- 2-5 years of experience in a similar type of position working in the plastics Industry; injection molding processes
- Proficient skills in reading, writing and math are necessary.
- Strong mechanical abilities & knowledge- preferably in the plastics Industry, with experience in Injection Molding
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; very detail-oriented
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
- Excellent computer skills
- Strong communication skills interacting with all levels of a company’s hierarchy.
Physical Demands:
Must possess mobility to work in a standard warehouse setting and work with and around a variety of equipment, parts, and inventory, to operate a motor vehicle and forklift; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium physical work; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves walking and working on slippery surfaces. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier weights with the proper equipment. All employees must wear company approved safety glasses while in the plant and distribution areas.
Environmental Elements:
Employees primarily work in the warehouse and are exposed to loud noise levels, vibration, chemicals, dust, mechanical hazards, and moving objects or other vehicles. May be exposed to cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, mechanical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees may interact with staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

- Knowledge of machining principles and ability to use basic machining tools
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations, including the use of calipers
- Understanding of plastics extrusion processes is a plus
- Ability to perform quality inspections and identify defects or deviations from specifications
- Familiarity with CNC programming and operation is a plus
