Your Role
The Gensler Apprenticeship Program (GAP) is a multi-phase, hands-on, paid apprenticeship program that offers another path into the design industry that is equitable, attainable, and rigorous. It is a manifestation of Gensler’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategies, and it empowers individuals to make a change in their life and the lives of others.
As an Apprentice-I in Gensler's Chicago office, you will receive software training, work with our architects and designers on real projects, learn from our first cohort of Apprentices (now entering Apprentice-II), and rotate through design studios and support disciplines to receive well-rounded, rigorous, real-world design training.
Upon completion of Apprentice-I, apprentices can feel confident they have acquired the necessary skills and training to apply for Apprentice-II or use their new network to uncover related career opportunities.
This is an in-person, 32-hour per week, paid opportunity, with benefits. The cohort will begin in September 2024 and run through August 2026. You must be available for the entire duration of the contract.
What You Will Do

Receive Design Technology (software) training, including, but not limited to Revit, Rhino, Adobe Creative Cloud, Bluebeam Revu

Collaborate with professionals to learn about design principles for the built environment

Actively participate in meetings with design partners and attend meetings with clients, support project teams in all phases of design including early conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and contract administration services

Receive mentorship and networking opportunities, and introductions to aspects of the business beyond building design (i.e., marketing, materials resources, and meetings with vendors)

Your Qualifications

High School diploma or GED

Interest in pursuing a career in Architecture or Interior Design

Good team spirit

Strong sense of personal responsibility and dedication to completing work in collaboration with a team

Can commit to 32 hours per week in the Gensler Chicago office for a minimum of 2 years
