Position Overview: The Cat Care Assistant’s main responsibility is the care of our boarding cat guests, and maintaining the boarding facility in excellent condition. The Assistant may also be asked to assist in the veterinary and/or grooming setting with simple patient restraint and the upkeep and maintenance of the veterinary clinic.
Position Responsibilities:
- Will be responsible for feeding and keeping fresh water available for boarding cats at the assigned times.
- Is responsible for keeping cats’ litter boxes clean (emptied twice daily) and cleaned and disinfected thoroughly in between boarding guests.
- Is responsible for medicating boarding cats, both orally and injections under the skin.
- Is responsible for keeping the owners of boarding cats updated daily as to the condition and wellbeing of the cats under their care.
- Should have a basic understanding of normal cat behavior and symptoms of illness. The Assistant is responsible for informing the cats’ owner(s) and alerting the medical staff if there is any concern with a cat under the care of the Cat Clinic.
- Is responsible for maintaining the boarding facility in a clean and safe environment for our boarding cats. A basic understanding of disease prevention is essential. Cleaning duties are required daily and include but are not limited to: sweeping, mopping, laundry, cleaning cat cages, handling cat waste, cleaning food and water bowls, et cetera.
- Will be responsible for assisting the Groomer in gentle restraint of patients getting groomed under the supervision of the Groomer.
- Is responsible for checking in of boarding cats including making estimates, reviewing paperwork, and required forms. Is responsible for checking out patients including taking payments.
- Other responsibilities may be required as determined by management.
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Employee must be able to lift up to 50lbs regularly, bend over and reach above their head repeatedly, and navigate up and down stairs multiple times during a single shift.
- Basic computer skills required (ability to learn and effectively use the practice software “Neo” as well as time management/HR software “Gusto” and client communication software “Weave”).
- Deal intelligibly, pleasantly and efficiently with clients on the telephone and in person.
- Work effectively and efficiently in the presence of other staff members and clients.
- Work independently to complete daily tasks as assigned without direct supervision.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
Experience Required:
- Experience handling cats is preferred.
- Some knowledge of veterinary medicine is preferred but not required.
- Previous experience in animal care or a related field is preferred.
Other Requirements:
- Employee must express a genuine liking for cats and for working in an animal care environment.
- Employee will need a willingness to learn and take constructive feedback.
- Employee must have a positive attitude and be willing to work with a team to achieve the goals set forth by the Cat Clinic of Asheville.
- Employee is expected to learn to employ and promote low stress handling and Cat Friendly© concepts.
