Job Title: Registered Nurse (Med-Surg)
Job Summary: As an RN in the Medical-Surgical unit, you will provide direct patient care to adult patients with a variety of medical conditions or who are recovering from surgery. You will assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. Your role will also involve patient education and collaboration with healthcare providers to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment: Perform comprehensive assessments of patients upon admission and throughout their hospital stay. Monitor and document patient progress, vital signs, and symptoms.
- Nursing Care Planning: Develop individualized nursing care plans based on patient assessments and collaborate with healthcare team members to adjust plans as needed.
- Medication Administration: Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians. Monitor patients for adverse reactions and side effects.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about their medical conditions, medications, and follow-up care. Provide discharge instructions to ensure continuity of care.
- Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare team members to coordinate patient care and ensure effective communication.
- Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patients' rights and ensure they receive compassionate and ethical care.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed medical records of nursing observations, interventions, and patient outcomes.
- Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to hospital policies and procedures to promote patient safety and satisfaction.
Qualifications:
- Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a current RN license.
- Experience: Previous experience in medical-surgical nursing or acute care is often preferred but may not always be required for entry-level positions.
- Skills: Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills, effective communication and teamwork abilities, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple patient care assignments.
