Child Life Specialist

We are seeking a per-diem Child Life Specialist to join our team at the Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. In this position, you will assess the developmental, psychosocial and intellectual needs of pediatric patients and develop, organize and direct a therapeutic program that will reduce stress, anxiety and fear associated with illness and hospitalization.
Responsibilities:
· Assess pediatric patients and identify developmental factors, healthcare experience and any psychosocial factors to development and implement a comprehensive plan of care
· Provide support, empowerment and educational opportunities to children and their families
· Develop and facilitate coping strategies to help patients manage discomfort and stress
· Evaluate and document assessment goals, interventions, outcomes and significant events to communicate and modify care plans as necessary
· Educate staff, students, volunteers and the community to promote greater awareness of the needs of children and families
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in child life, child development or related field; Master’s degree preferred
· A minimum of 600 verified Association of Child Life Professionals internship hours
· Certified Child Life Specialist (or completion within 1 year of hire)
· 1+ years of experience working with children; Professional child life experience in health care setting strongly preferred
· Significant child development knowledge and ability to make meaningful connections with patients and families
