Responsibilities:
As a Medical Assistant/Receptionist at our dermatology office, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of daily activities. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Patient Interaction:
- Greet patients warmly and assist with check-in procedures.
- Schedule appointments, answer phone calls, and respond to inquiries with professionalism.
- Obtain and update patient information accurately.
Administrative Support:
- Maintain organized and up-to-date patient records.
- Assist with insurance verification and billing processes.
Medical Assistance:
- Assist dermatologists with in-office procedures as directed.
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are stocked with necessary supplies.
- Preparing instruments and equipment for procedures (such as sutures, sponges, gauze) by assembling, sterilizing and packaging them.
- Disposing of hazardous waste such as needles and expired drugs according to policy guidelines.
- Preparing and restocking exam rooms for the next patient.
- Preparing various forms for insurance billing such as patient accounts, referral forms and pre-certification forms.
- Handling medications such as counting, recording the number of doses given to patients or medical providers and explaining how to take medications.
- Tracking medical provider’s schedule by updating written or electronic charts, checking lab results and responding to messages in email and voicemail.
- Regularly keep equipment clean by wiping down surfaces that come into contact with patients, such as counters, bed rails, and chairs.
- Advising patients on how to care for themselves based on their condition and testing results.
- Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment and medications.
- Helping with clerical duties such as completing insurance forms, filing paperwork or typing letters.
- Maintaining inventory of supplies in the exam room, stock area and office by checking supply levels according to inventory sheets.
- Respecting patient diversity regarding culture, race, religion, age, gender, economic status, etc.
- Remaining professional regarding all patient and professional interactions, either written or face-to-face.
- Ensuring a high level of effective interaction with staff and patients to optimize workflow efficiency.
- Completing other duties as assigned, for example, handling paperwork related to payment plans.
- Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and other team members.
- Relay important information to patients regarding prescribed medications and post-care instructions.
Qualifications:
- Preferred: Minimum of 1 year of experience in a dermatology setting.
- Experience with EMA software is a plus.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant is preferred but not required.
