Position Summary:
Reports to Director of Environmental Services, Patient Transport & Linen Distribution. Responsible for planning organizing and ensuring that optimum housekeeping, laundry, and linen services are provided to user departments.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Direct and indirect supervision of at approximately 110 full-time employees.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Associates degree in Management or in the field of business or Health Care Administration to provide knowledge of management, record keeping, preparation of reports, etc., or equivalent experience.
· Minimum four years of progressively more responsible housekeeping experience, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Facilitates the effective utilization of resources including people, financial, and material by developing goals and objectives for Environmental Services, Laundry and Linen in conjunction with director and the strategic plan for the academic medical center.
· Serves as a role model to staff by continual demonstration of the corporate values and principles. Creates and maintains effective, positive customer service relationships by identifying customers and their needs. Ensures that needs are met; responds appropriately to difficult interactions and educates all staff on the importance of quality and customer service.
· Effectively and continually communicates with the staff, management, and customer, to facilitate the flow of information necessary to the success of the employees, departments, functions and the organization
· Creates employee ownership for their careers and success by providing staff with positive and action-oriented feedback to maximize the utilization and potential of the organization’s human resources.
· Assists the Director in the establishment and maintenance of work standards for cleanliness and sanitation, and the production and distribution of clean textile products.
· Assists with the development of new procedures involving the use of new equipment and re-writes existing procedures to bring them up-to-date.
· Works with ESD Supervisors and Patient Transport Manager. Assists with evaluating the performance of staff, counseling, and other employee-relations matters.
· Resolves unusual situations, and/or those directly passed on by supervisors; schedules individual work assignments and personnel.
· Completes performance appraisals on supervisors, team leads, and/or front line staff and submits to director for review.
· Conducts meetings with supervisors to exchange ideas, passes on job-related information, and provides interpretation of policies and procedures.
· Interviews and selects non-supervisory personnel in conjunction with supervisor and director. Makes recommendations for selection of supervisory personnel.
· Maintains overall responsibility for the training and development of all personnel at assigned site, in particular, for the development of supervisor’s skills.
· Prepares records and reports on weekly, monthly, and annual basis, such as budget variance reports, work load studies, man hour utilization. Reviews time sheets and coordinates vacation scheduling for all personnel on site.
· Directs the maintenance of Environmental Services, Laundry, and Linen equipment, furniture, and accessories, and assures an adequate inventory of equipment in supply area. Follows up on contract services for equipment maintenance, as well as other services such as window washing and extermination.
· Consults with vendor representatives, oversees the testing and evaluation of new products, equipment and services, and recommends purchase to director. Recommends purchase of replacement items, such as drapes and cubicle curtains, and equipment as necessary.
· Follows up on requests from other hospital departments for ESD and Laundry services.
· Meets regularly with such departments as Nursing, Support Services and Admitting to exchange ideas and information.
· Inspects areas of the hospital to see that Housekeeping functions are being carried out completely and in accordance with proper methods. Documents inspection.
· Updates all schematics and square footage measurements due to renovations and new construction.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Considerable walking and standing; occasional exposure to adverse conditions while inspecting. Directly supervises personnel.
Occasional travel between sites for meetings, as directed.
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Performs independently within department policies and procedures, and generally refers specific, complex problems to supervisor, where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required.
