We were awarded Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHC) Demonstration Site. CCBHCs provide a comprehensive range of addiction and mental health services to vulnerable individuals. CCBHCs must provide nine types of services, with an emphasis on the provision of both substance use and mental health care, 24-hour crisis care, evidence-based practices, and care coordination. Medical Director/Consulting Psychiatrist
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This is a full-time or part-time position that provides supervision of the psychiatric, medication, and laboratory services provided by this agency. The person in this position monitors compliance and provides emergency psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and assessment of mental and physical needs for adult consumers; monitors DC psychiatrists, Nurse Practitioners, Residents; Medical Assistants and may provide emergency evaluations, prescribing and review of psychotropic medications, when applicable, depending on individual need. Provides audits and on-going reviews of documentation and services provided by contractual psychiatrists including: medication reviews, observing for effectiveness of medication upon target symptoms, side effects, and current functioning/quality of life of the consumer. Provides clinical case consultation, training and medication in-services, psychiatric peer review audits, Co-Chairs Utilization Review component; involved in the development and implementation of appropriate psychiatric and medication related policies and procedures and works as a member of the treatment team. This position is under the general guidance and supervision of the Chief Program Officer.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Monitors and provides supervision to psychiatrists, NPs, psychiatric residents and nurses, re: administration of all somatic therapies (e.g., prescriptions, periodic review of medication, supervision of nurses)
- Monitoring the provision of psychiatrists and nurses documentation regarding mechanisms for assessing the physical health of the agency’s consumers and making referrals for case management or other means of ensuring follow-up with the identified health issues
- Ensures the on-going audits, reviews of documentation of services provided to consumer and makes recommendations for improvement and follow-up actions
- Ensures coordination of treatment of the physical health to consumers with all other services
- Monitoring and ensuring the effectiveness and humanness of any security measures using the least restrictive methods to provide the most therapeutic services needed by the consumer at the time
- Participating in and facilitation of Quarterly Psychiatric Meetings
- Provides consultation to the CCBHC and participates in all required meetings
- Co-chair the Utilization Review, Sentinel Event and Behavior Treatment Committee Meetings
- Conducting periodic case reviews- Conduct annual peer record reviews for prescribers and follow up on resulting recommendations to improve service delivery
- Meet health plan and regulatory requirements, including the Merit Based Incentive Program (MIPS)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) Degree
- Fully licensed to practice medicine in the State of Michigan
- Board Certified by ABPN (American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology), or will be certified within one (1) year.
- Interested in teaching and motivated to teach
- Comfortable directing patient care seen by a resident
- Comfortable giving constructive feedback
- Working on-site when supervising residents
- Current malpractice insurance coverage $1,000,000/$3,000,000
- Current Controlled Substance & DEA Registration (Federal and State)
