IEL is looking for a Product Owner who is passionate about developing and enhancing customer-centric, transportation software products and solutions within small, empowered, Agile teams for the 3PL industry. Someone with 3PL or freight brokerage experience who enjoys working in a highly collaborative environment, that values learning, and is willing to move out of their comfort zone. IEL seeks someone with logistics experience, skilled at creating high performance teams and has a proven track record of effective inter departmental project management. To be successful in this role, the Product Owner must be willing to drive change; as well as, welcome change as IEL continues its journey to become a more Agile organization.
Position Description (Essential Duties & Responsibilities):
- Meet with customers, users, and other key stakeholders; as well as, perform competitive market analysis, to inform decision making on product direction.
- Work closely with senior leadership to align product vision to corporate strategy.
- Understand IEL’s business processes to make informed strategic decisions regarding software development priorities based on customer needs, organizational efficiency, risk management and revenue generation.
- Create the product vision and disseminate it to a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Translate the product vision into consumable chunks of work for the Scrum teams.
- Write Product Backlog Items (PBI’s) as user stories, or in another format, that capture the high level need and provide just enough detail, without going too deep into the weeds.
- Own the Product Backlog and prioritize the backlog items in a way that maximizes value and aligns the work to the product vision.
- Partner with the Scrum teams in setting a high bar for quality by advocating for quality at all levels, including at the unit, component, story, and feature levels.
- Collaborate daily with the Scrum teams and at Scrum team events, responding to their needs and in collaboration with the Scrum Master, removing roadblocks as quickly as possible.
- Accept completed stories on behalf of the users and customers.
- Ensure the product delights, by acting as an advocate for the customer, Scrum team, and other key stakeholders.
- Recognize the need to strike a balance between functionality that is customer facing and functionality that services the needs of the organization, such as reducing technical debt and satisfying compliance mandates.
- Negotiate with all stakeholders in good faith and strive for the best possible outcomes.
- Maintain an open, transparent, and continuous line of communication with product stakeholders.
- Have the mindset of an entrepreneur. Approach problems with a beginner’s mind, think in aspirational terms, and with a sense of curiosity. Not afraid to ask “why?”, when challenged with conventional wisdom.
- Keep pace with emerging technology as it relates to the product and the product’s competition.
- Devise and be accountable for product key performance indicators (KPI`s).
Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
Basic (Required)
- Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining a product vision.
- Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining product roadmaps.
- Industry recognized certification in Product Ownership and/or Product Management
- Experience with Atlassian Jira and Bitbucket
- Experience working with multiple Agile methods (Scrum, Lean Startup, XP) and cross-functional teams
Preferred
- 2 or more years demonstrated experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager for one or more Agile software development teams, having at least some of the responsibilities listed.
- A proven history of building software products that customers love.
- Demonstrated experience writing user stories and familiarity with the concepts of writing good user stories.
- An engaging, collaborative personal style that can adapt quickly to change
- An ability to break down complex ideas into consumable information for a variety of audiences.
- A proven track record of inspiring others through confidence, integrity, and accountability
- Demonstrated ability to devise meaningful metrics, perform analysis, and explain how the results support organizational goals and desired outcomes.
- A proven reputation for learning and ongoing professional development
- Experience in the third-party logistics (3PL) industry
- Bachelor`s or Master`s degree in technical or business discipline or equivalent experience
