Position Summary
The Human Resource Specialist position is full-time, 40 hours per week (exempt, benefits available) and will primarily take place at our Little Village, Midway, or Humboldt Park locations. The Human Resource Specialist is responsible for HR duties that focus on recruitment such as screening job applicants, scheduling interviews, checking references, and assisting with all onboarding logistics as needed. May require some local travel (reimbursable). Pay commensurate with experience. This position is in-person.
Job Responsibilities

Communicates regularly with HR leadership about recruitment needs, challenges, etc.

Assists in identifying and implementing best practices for recruitment in the HR department.

Is the main contact person for recruitment in the HR department.

Responsible for staff recruiting to include the following duties:

Post jobs and filter applications in ADP
-
Conduct initial phone screen to assess experience and qualifications.

Coordinate additional interviews needed with hiring managers and leadership.

Assist managers with the development of interview questions and protocols. Make recommendations to hiring managers.

Keep candidates informed of the status of their application throughout the process.

Conduct reference checks and perform background screenings.

Notify applicants of final outcomes.

Assists Generalist with all onboarding logistics.

Manage all hiring paperwork.

Assists Generalist with coordinating onboarding and training needs with hiring managers.

Assists with annual and program audits as needed.

Supervision includes on-site visits, regular check-ins, and break-out planning meetings.

Participates in required evaluations.

Demonstrates New Life Centers’ values.

Attends required meetings and trainings.

Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Skills & Qualifications

Must become a Certified Mandated Reporter. Training provided.

Must pass a background check, must not have any pending cases.
-
Must pass a Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System background check.
-
Must pass a National Sex Offender Registry background check.
-
Must have a working phone and phone number.
-
Minimum 2-4 years working in Human Resources field.
-
An understanding of business helpful but not necessary.
-
Completed relevant coursework/field of study.
-
Cross-cultural competency.
-
Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.

Ability to effectively work independently, problem-solve, multi-task and take initiative.
-
High organization and detail-oriented skill ability.
-
Knowledge of other database software a plus.

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Must be willing to be trained, and proficiently utilize database(s) and information tracking systems relevant to duties.

Must keep confidentiality of participant information.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
