Job Title: Reliability Engineer Lead
FLSA Status: Salary Exempt
Summary
The Reliability Engineer Lead will be responsible for complex assignments & will need to demonstrate technical leadership & have a peer level understanding of engineering concepts. The Reliability Engineer will need to be able to develop staff to be capable of reducing unplanned and reactive downtime via tools provided by (TPM) Total Productive Maintenance and other Reliability Centered Maintenance processes. The Reliability Engineer must be able to work flexible hours and be accessible during emergencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):
This position is responsible for management of predictive maintenance programs including vibration, lubrication analysis and thermography. Must have experience in “Lead Predictive Analysis”. Must have working knowledge of how to lead predictive analysis programs such as: Vibration, Oil, Thermographic etc. and specify the correcting actions from the interpreted results.
Prepares and develops Preventive Maintenance program for all equipment to include document preparation, storage and revision. Provides technical support to maintenance crews and project leaders
Responsible for determining Preventative Maintenance (PM) requirements and developing PM frequencies for new equipment and evaluation of effectiveness of existing preventative maintenance actions.
Guides efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls, and safety/security systems.
Facilitate Root Cause Analysis on equipment failures and implements corrective actions.
Provides consistent and constructive feedback to employees by suggesting changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency at work. Ensures that quality requirements and procedures for the department and plant are communicated, understood, and practiced.
Trains, develops, and identifies employee training and resource needs. Involved in the hiring process for assigned employee work group. Maintains training records for employees. Develops and measures reliability and effectiveness of maintenance systems to ensure effectiveness.
Develops and maintains effective working relationships with other departments to proactively address issues that may potentially impact the quality of the production process or product, including working with safety committee by attending safety meetings, working on safety projects, completing safety surveys, and performing safety training to promote a safe work environment, appropriate employee behavior, and accident prevention.
Leads the site’s objective of assuring critical spare parts are identified and strategies for critical spare part access are in place.
Leads or works on special projects. Oversees contractors on maintenance related jobs to assure all contract maintenance services are performed according to quality and safety standards and contractual agreement.
Performs daily cleanliness inspections and weekly walk through in departments.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Responsible for direct supervision of 3 to 10 Maintenance Technicians.
Qualifications
Knowledge and skills required to perform troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and other basic mechanical and operating problems.
Proficient using a PC and other department specific databases and/or systems and all assigned machinery and related equipment.
Ability to properly use standard and precision tools, equipment, and follow technical instructions. Knowledge of plant operating principles, procedures and safe work practices.
Knowledge of job safety requirements, work planning, and troubleshooting.
Well-developed verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in order to effectively interact with internal employees and external customers.
Ability to reduce tension and conflict and maintain professionalism in accordance with corporate standards. Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and exercise good judgment to resolve problems in the absence of formalized guidelines and procedures.
Have a good working knowledge of computer skills (CMMS/EAM systems, project tracking, word processing, charts, graphs, timelines etc.)
Possess analytical and organizational skills at a very high level
Ability to interpret and evaluate inspection results
Proficient in conducting reliability engineering analysis and trending
Skilled in developing equipment maintenance strategies and designs repairs
Skilled in leading Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations and developing effective corrective actions using techniques including interviewing, root cause analysis, and the Lean 5-Why methodology
Knowledgeable in developing maintenance and inspection procedures and training
Strong personal commitment to safety coupled with knowledge and training on OSHA Standards, Plant Standards, Corporate Standards, HAZOP and Fire Safety fundamentals
Ability to lead and coach others to enhance the performance effectiveness of day to day activities in a multifunctional organization
Ability to lead and coach in a positive and constructive way to conduct process equipment performance reviews
Can accept and use constructive feedback to influence and align others

Manage Risk with respect to reliable equipment
Identify potential failures and take steps to prevent them
Track production losses and maintenance cost related to reliability
Facilitate risk management tools like FMEA and Reliability-Centered maintenance analysis
Analyze downtime and pareto failures
Assist in estimating maintenance cost and evaluation alternatives
Work and coordinate with OEMs and 3rd party vendors for technical support
Assist with department improvement projects to improve effectiveness and efficiency
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 4 years of experience and/or training in a related field in a manufacturing/automotive environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
