DMF Youth seeks a dynamic and passionate Afterschool Teacher to join our team. Our program blends dance education with a life skill development curriculum, rooted in Social Emotional Learning principles, providing a safe and creative space for students to learn essential life skills. This role does not require a dance background but does require enthusiasm, engagement with children through movement and dance, and the ability to support teachers during the dance section of class with behavior management and mentorship. The ideal candidate will be fluent in English and Spanish, capable of translating key social-emotional learning concepts for our diverse group of students. This role is perfect for college or graduate students in education, psychology, or social work, looking to hone their skills in a community-based program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Lead Teachers: Collaborate with lead teachers in planning and executing engaging afterschool activities, particularly those involving dance and movement
- Co-teach SEL lessons and assist with overall flow and execution of class
- Behavior Management: Assist in maintaining a positive and safe learning environment by supporting lead teachers in managing student behavior and resolving conflicts.
- Engage with Students: Actively participate in all activities with students to foster a fun and inclusive learning environment.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and awareness when working with students from diverse backgrounds and encourage an inclusive atmosphere.
- Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with both students and other staff members, contributing to a positive team dynamic.
- Resource Development: Help develop and adapt educational materials to accommodate language and cultural differences among students.
- Assessment: Collect and record data related to students' progress and participation, as needed, to assist in program evaluation.
- Language Translation (bonus): Translate key social-emotional learning concepts and instructions for students who may have limited proficiency in English. Ensure all students can fully participate in activities.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when working with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
- Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude.
- Flexibility to adapt to different teaching and learning styles.
- Willingness to learn DMF Youth methodologies
- Previous experience in a similar role
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish a Plus
- BA or gratuate degree a plus
Hours: Our programs run from school dismissal until 5:30pm. Must commit to at least two days of work (Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays).
