Job Summary
We are seeking four knowledgeable and passionate Booksellers to join our team for our bookstore opening in Summer 2024!
We are looking for 3 part-time and 1 full-time Booksellers with varied schedules, including weekend and evening hours. Since we’re a small bookshop, every bookseller has a chance to make a big impact, and responsibilities will change and grow over time.
As a Bookseller, you will be vital in providing exceptional customer service and promoting a love for reading. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting customers, organizing shelves, and recommending books based on customer preferences.
Duties
- Greet customers and provide friendly and helpful assistance in person and over the phone.
- Delight customers in locating books and making recommendations based on their interests
- Operate the cash register and store computer to accept payments, place orders, and make change, adhering to safe cash handling procedures, including balancing the cash drawer and preparing bank deposits.
- Help organize and plan store events, including set-up, attend, and tear-down.
- Process customer transactions using the point-of-sale (POS) system
- Pull and process book returns using inventory system reports
- Maintain a clean and organized store environment.
- Fulfill special orders and monthly book subscriptions.
- Receive and unpack new book shipments.
- Attend off-site events to sell books.
- Stock shelves with new arrivals and restock as needed
- Create relevant and attractive displays to highlight featured books or promotions in the store and on social media.
- Answer customer inquiries in person, over the phone, or via email.
- Identify opportunities for improvement in operations to enhance the bookstore experience for both customers and fellow booksellers.
- Contribute occasionally to the social media content.
- Fulfill online and phone orders for pickup and shipping and in-store pickup orders.
- Visit the bank and post office as needed.
- Provide general store cleaning, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and straightening shelves, displays, and register areas.
- Responsible key holder duties with opening and closing responsibilities.
Experience:
- Prior bookseller experience (independant bookstore preferred)
- Required physical activity includes the ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 30 lbs., and stand on stepladders.
- Strong communication skills to effectively and pleasantly interact with customers
- Excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Basic math skills for handling cash transactions accurately
- Familiarity with POS systems is a plus
- Friendly and engaging personality
- Passion for books and knowledge of different genres and authors
- Accept coaching and feedback from others openly
