Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join our team as an Associate Underwriter II!
About the role
As an Associate Underwriter II, you will underwrite new business accounts for Life, AD&D, Short Term Disability (STD), Family Medical Leave (FML) and Long-Term Disability (LTD), typically between 100 and 500 lives with emphasis between 250 and 500 lives.
What you will do
- Review Request for Proposal (RFP) submissions including verifying integrity of census data and plan information and requesting additional information as needed.
- Develop & analyze manual ratings and if applicable, historic premium/claims information via a credibility formula to develop and communicate new business rate recommendations in accordance with pricing targets and level of authority. Sales expectations of $2.0 MM per year.
- Underwrite large market in force customer accounts including renewal preparation, for cases over 500 lives, generally up to 1,500 lives.
- Process sold accounts and renewals following established procedures.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with Symetra sales, field and home office service and actuarial teams.
- Participate in projects and training initiatives as assigned.
- Maintain accurate and up to date reporting of assigned presales and renewals.

Compensation
Salary Range: $51,500 – $85,800 plus eligibility for annual bonus program
Your experience and skills
- High school diploma required. 4-year college degree or equivalent business experience preferred.
- Mathematics, finance, accounting, economics, or other business degree preferred.
- 1+ years of prior experience in an entry level underwriting position or underwriting analyst role required.
- Strong analytical and technical skills.
- Strong Excel and Word skills.
- Effective interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Able to make effective decisions within authority limits and recommendation if outside of authority limits.
- Service oriented with commitment to meet deadlines.
- Able to multi-task and work efficiently in a team environment.
