Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Weekend Addiction Counselor/Group Facilitator to join our team. As an Addiction Counselor/Group Facilitator, you will provide support and guidance to individuals struggling with substance use and related co-occurring disorders. Your role will primarily involve facilitating groups, conducting clinical interventions, and assisting with intakes over the weekend to help clients on their path to recovery.
Duties:
- Facilitate psychoeducational and process group sessions to address needs, promote peer support, and encourage healthy coping strategies
- Review and follow individualized treatment plans to develop appropriate group materials and approaches
- Provide crisis intervention sessions when needed to address underlying issues contributing to addiction
- Utilize evidence-based behavioral techniques to help clients modify destructive behaviors
- Work with clients in developing relapse-recovery management strategies and coping mechanisms
- Assist with the intake process for newly admitted clients
- May assist with other core counseling functions as needed
- Collaborate with staff across all departments to ensure holistic care for clients
- Document all client-related activities and observations in the electronic clinical record
- Stay up to date with current research and best practices in addiction counseling
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in addiction counseling, psychology, social work, or related field
- Valid certification or licensure in Virginia as a CSAC, LSATP, LPC, or LCSW (CSAC Supervisees, Counselors in Residence, and Social Work Supervisees with appropriate experience will be considered.)
- Peer Recovery Specialists (RPRS/CPRS) and QMHPs will also be considered
- At least 12 months working in the addiction/substance use disorder treatment and recovery field
- Familiarity with 12-Step Recovery and other mutual help programs
- Proficiency in medical and behavioral health terminology related to addiction treatment
- Strong knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and ability to handle high-stress situations
- Experience in providing care for individuals with co-occurring disorders (e.g., PTSD, ADHD, depression, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to establish rapport with diverse populations
- Empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach towards individuals struggling with substance use and related co-occurring disorders
- Knowledge of professional ethics and federal, state, and municipal laws and regulations that apply to the addiction treatment field, including client confidentiality and rights, HIPAA, 42 CFR, etc.
- Ability to quickly adapt to and support challenges and changes at the facility
- Candidates in recovery from substance use disorders are encouraged to apply but must have a minimum of 2 years of continuous sobriety immediately prior to hire
