Position Overview:
Mental Health Workers, operating in a Direct Support (DSP) capacity, provide direct support professional services and independent living skills training to the individuals we serve in our 24-hour residential programs. These programs serve the needs of individuals in a home setting that is managed by RTI. Our clients include those with a severe mental illness (SMI) health diagnosis and or traumatic brain injury (TBI) disability. This role reports to the Program manager and has no direct reports.
Role Responsibilities:
- Support individuals in independent living skills through 1:1 service.
- Support individuals in mental health management through identifying coping skills, practicing coping skills, and alternative methods.
- Teach and model community integration skills such as: self-managing medications, managing personal finances, appropriate interpersonal interactions, managing the public transportation system, completing the necessary tasks to maintain a home, and accessing community resources.
- Interacts informally with individuals to facilitate socialization and appropriate behavior.
- Participates in scheduled and spontaneous recreational events.
- Teaches healthy living habits and develops the accompanying skills.
Required Qualification and Experience:
- 1 year work experience working with those with a severe mental illness and or traumatic brain injury.
- 18 years of age or older with a completed High School Diploma or it’s equivalent.
- Ability to pass a Department of Human Services background check.
- Ability to pass the BCA Criminal Background Check and the Sexual Exploitation of Patients by Psychotherapist screen required by DHS.
- Ability to pass screening required by Federal Human Services office of the Inspector General
- Ability to organize and work independently.
- Willingness to travel within the Metro Area, for applicable mileage reimbursements, with a current driver’s license, clean record, and personal vehicle with insurance; and able to transport clients in that vehicle.
- Possess a person-centered approach, consistent with the Philosophical approach of the individual program and RTI
- Ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
