Position Summary
The TJI Mentor is a per diem position. TJI Mentor are mentors who are responsible for facilitating counseling groups and engaging in individual counseling with Camden County Justice involved youth between the ages of 10-21. TJI Mentor possess knowledge of the juvenile justice system and outside referral systems in the County of Camden. TJI Mentors must have an understanding of family structures such as blended, single-parent, dual-income, and/or grandparents raising grandchildren, etc. The candidate must be familiar with social service organizations, DCPP, CMO, FSO, MDT, CSOC, Camden Family Court as well as mental health, substance abuse and teen programs.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate Groups
- Use agency-sponsored curriculum to lead group sessions.
- Foster a sense of community within the program.
- Counseling Interventions
- Provide counseling to justice-committed youth to improve functioning in school, home, and community.
- Facilitate individual and/or family group sessions.
- Collaboration and Support
- Work with TJI & Divine Coaching team members to help youth achieve program goals.
- Attend Child Family Teams (CFTS) conferences and visit youth in their home, school, and community.
- Documentation
- Complete detailed progress notes and reports for individual and group sessions.
- Availability and Crisis Support
- Maintain 24/7 availability via telephone to provide support, guidance, and assistance during crises.
- Offer on-site coaching to family members navigating the juvenile justice system.
- Court Process and Family Support
- Explain the Family Court process to families and attend court appointments.
- Serve as a liaison between families and Transformative Justice Initiative staff to ensure effective collaboration.
- Program Orientations
- Conduct monthly orientations to inform families about the court process and available services.
- Individualized Family Support
- Assist families in navigating various systems (child welfare, education, mental health, housing) and accessing community services.
Qualifications
- Adequate knowledge of court involved systems and other service care systems in the Camden County area (i.e. CSOC, CMO, FSO, DCP&P etc.)
- Ability to connect with and provide empathetic, nonjudgmental, culturally and linguistically competent support to youth and families.
- Experience providing life coaching and support to youth either in a formal paid capacity, or informally as volunteers
- Flexible schedules with the ability to work evenings, weekends and on call if necessary
- Computer literacy and the ability to complete weekly data entry
- Adequate verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of the juvenile justice system and its processes; understanding other service systems including education, mental health, child welfare, etc.
Compensation
Salary Hourly: $32hr
